Shocks / Springs Dilemma

Hey all,

I'm sitting around 43K miles on my 06 AWD sport. I have an itch to install H&R's and spacers (shooting for Labor Day weekend).

I'd like your input: Should I just order up some KYB shocks and change out the OEM while I'm tearing into it?? I get various answers on the life of the OEM shocks - some say 50K, others say 80, etc.

Thanks in advance

are you installing the spacers yourself or getting someone else to do it for you? if i were you, i would wait for another 15k miles and change the shocks at 60k service.

I'm doing it all myself.

If you can swing it financially you might want to hold out for coil over's =)

I thought about this...However, the shocks/springs are around half the cost (~$530 shipped) of a set of coilovers.

My service advisor at the dealer told me the shocks are pretty robust on our cars and the G's in general and told me to wait on it until at least 80K+ miles. I took my car in for its 60K service two weeks ago. Right after that, I had an indie shop install H&R springs and 25mm all around. I decided to pass on the shock replacement for now. But overall im am extremely happy with the springs/spacers install. The look and handling is night and day. It could probably go another half an inch lower, but for everything plus install at almost half the cost of coilovers/install, its a pretty good choice for now.

I did the same at 45K miles, then swapped the shocks at 58K. You'll feel a huge difference/improvement with new shocks @60K. They may not NEED replacement by then, but they are definitely on their way out.

I haven't searched but would love to see pics of your car with the 25mm and H&R's. Interesting point on the life of OEM shocks...Considering that I typically put less than 10K/year, it'll be a while before I get there.

Thanks for the input. Based on the responses, I'm going to just do the springs and spacers for now. By the time I reach 55-60K+ miles, it'll be late 2011 or early 2012 and I'll probably be itching to work on the car again by that time.
