Ready For Second SUV - FX45 AWD or X5 4.8IS

^^ Thank you, you are too kind. Great concise review. I've had two a few BMWs, two of them being M3s. Also had a good experience.

had a 99 528i back in 03,quiet and smooth but too many reliability issues. never looked at european cars since. even though this one performs well, i wouldn't compare it for looks, it barely OK in that category.

X6M. Ugly, but defies physics. That would be the Bimmer to get, but I think it's a bit more cash

I've actually owned 2 BMW's and they are hands down the WORST pieces of crap I have ever owned! My 3 series brand new had many issues that it went back in for servicing quite often. I figured it was a fluke so I got an X5 since it was suppose to be better quality. My X5 in the 3 years I owned had the rear suspension replaced, water pump, radiator, thermostat, ABS computer, steering angle sensor, trans cooler and front bushings replaced. My power steering pump, rear passenger door lock still need to get fixed and my DSC ABS lights are still on! Huge money pit after the warranty is gone. If you can get a warranty then you might consider the bimmer but reliability is NOT what everyone thinks it is. You mentioned the Xoutpost, I left that board cause the X5 group is helpful but also very narrow minded. If it isn't accepted by the group as whole you will be ostracized. Read around on that forum a bit more and see how common peoples complaints are about the transmissions, water pump, final stage resistor, door lock actuators, window regulators, front bushings and tire wear(even at stock height)
I've given up on German already cause the workmanship is horrible, finding someone to work on your car besides the dealership is impossible except for indys and they charge just a little less than the dealership and all in all the Japanese are better designed and executed. I got my FX35 about 2 months ago and haven't been any more happy! The 45 is suppose to be comparable to the 4.8 in performance.
From someone with actual experience with both an X5 and FX....I would rather drive a Honda with it's quality than another BMW so I am super happy with my FX.
As for the X6 hahaha, It was reviewed on Top Gear as one of the dumbest ideas ever made as a vehicle. Too top heavy to be a performance vehicle but couldn't even drive up a slippery slope cause it had no traction so it failed as an SUV also. It was a very funny episode, that guy just cracks me up!

^^ Interested, never had any issues with all 5 of my BMWs some of them high miles. If there were ever the car was at the service, BMW spoiled me with cool Loaners (335I, X5, Z4). I actually wanted to take my car in, to get cool fun loaners for a week etc...

I've always heard that the 3-series cars are the shining exceptions to BMW's reputation of terrible reliability. Also that the V8 powered 5 series (x5 being the worst of the worst) is the least reliable of their fleet.

My son in law has had a fully modded 6 speed manual m6, a e46 m3, e39 m5, a e53 Dinan 4.8is, and 335i in the past 3 years. He has the m6 and x5 now. They are INCREDIBLE machines and are solid at any speed. And let me tell you about that m6... Hahaha.
