So I bought a pair of 6000K Morimoto D2S bulbs from TheRetroFitSource.com. Received them the other day and had them installed. First off let me say the physical part of the bulb is built good right up on par with Phillips, but the color sucks. 6000K is advertised to have a pure white output with a slight tinge of blue to it. But my bulbs don't have that slight tinge at all. Their just pure white and thats it. Maybe a slight tinge of yellow to them actually. No blue at all. Actually they look somewhat similar to stock 4300K. Not satisfied with this purchase considering I spent $50 on these bulbs just for them to look a little better than stock.

I got 6000K in my fogs and the headlights don't match the fogs. I had to go down to 5000K on the fogs to get the fogs to match the headlights.

I contacted TheRetroFitSource and they still have not replied back to my email I sent them on this problem yesterday. Quality is good but color sucks ass.

I have Morimoto 6000K D2S bulb and mine have a slight tinge of blue. I also compared them to my OEM bulb and the difference is significant enough to notice 4300K vs 6000K.

Note that they will color shift and get bluer as time goes on. Depending on how long you had your 6000K fogs, they could have color-shifted enough not to match, but again, every manufacture has their own idea of 6000K.

Your fogs are also in a halogen housing, which I've noticed can make the output more blue than if in a projector lens.

Note my reflector shield is modified:

hey dont worry, i was in your position the 1st week, i even put them on sale, heres what! a week later and as time goes on it gets bluer to 6k, but when theres light outside or if your in a close wall and pointing your heads it will show 4300k, but when your on the street you will see the blue, wait a week...

Ok I'll give it a while and see if it color shifts. Hopefully it will cause I was kind of disappointed :/

6000k is supposed to have no blue, it it supposed to be straight white

5000K is more pure white with 6000K having a tint of blue. But any manufacture has their own spin. That's why most D2S bulbs are replaced in pairs due to color shift. Philips came out with a bluer bulb that doesn't color shift so it could replace only one bulb if one went out.

you can probably return them, they have good customer service.

I would get 8000K if you really want the color, but then again you are losing a lot of lumens.

The 6000k i have in the FX has a slight of blue in it. That burn in time to let the color change means nothing.

As I stated, every manufacturer has a "different" 6000K and can even vary by the same manufacturer. If you have 6000K that are slight blue, that's great if that's what you want. Over time, it can get closer to 7000K+.

The Morimotos will turn more bluish after time, and other bulbs will too.

Bulbs do color shift, but the Philips 85122+ does not as much.

To say color change means nothing, I wonder why Philips came out with 85122CM bulb (color match) for those bulbs that do shift.

My OEM philips 85122 I've used for 5 years are closer to 5000k in output and look like 6000K with my reflector mod. Getting one 85122 will make it look yellow and would need a 85122CM.

This list is helpful for bulbs made by Philips:
1) 85122WX (aka Philips Ultinon 6000k) 30% less output
2) 85122CM (aka Philips 5000k) - created so you can replace one bulb of the 85122 and have similar color
3) 85122LL (aka Philips long life)
4) 85122+ (aka Philips 4300k), resists color shifts. (Brightest output)
5) 85122 (aka Philips 4300k), color shifts to ~5000k after use.

I have the 85122CM 5000K and love them. I tried the 5000K and 6000K DDM's, and both had to much blue and not bright enough.

I just ordered the 85122CMs today for $217. Way too pricey when I couldve gotten the morimotos for $50, but based on reviews from here and a lot of other car forums Ive browsed, these bulbs where one of the best to get. But myl168 is right, when im driving at night i want it to look good and not cheap for our type of cars. i didnt want to spend less money and end up spending more time and money to get the better ones.

Thanks for the help earlier too Ed!

i got the bulbs from aftermarketbulbsshop.com

I got mine off ebay. I paid around $125 w/shipping. The seller has some now at $138, but i was able to bid on some from the same guy when i got mine. They start up with a bit of red/pink because the salts in the bulb are reddish. I'm happy with the pure white output. I want to be able to see the road, dodge pot holes, and have no yellow. So far best bulbs I have tried. I wish i didn't waste my money and time on the other less expensive bulbs.

Just a little update for you guys.

I took a drive out to Mohegan Sun for the weekend lol. Anyways I had the lights on for a total of like 12 hours already, and I can tell the color is starting to shift. It looks PURE white with maybe just a tinge of blue. It's starting to look really good! No lies! The guy over at the RetroFitSource told me they start to colorshift between the first 25-40 hours of the "break in period", and I'm now starting to notice it. WOW these look like they light up the road alot better than the stock 4300K too and they look amazing now. No slight tinge of yellow no more either. I will post some pictures!

The projectors on the 09 fx have like the sharpest cutoff I've ever seen too. I love them! Plus having the AFS on top of it is a nice feature too.

As promised here is a cutoff line shot of the Morimoto 6000K D2S bulbs. Their damn bright and starting to look more pure white with a tinge of blue. But for some reason my gay Blackberry makes the light look a a little yellow, but it's not :)

look good from the pics. how do they perform? better or worse than the OEM bulbs?

Light output seems better than OEM, eventhough using 6000K loses about 200 Lumens. I think the reason why it looks brighter is cause pure white shows up alot better on the road than 4300K. Buy them, you won't be disappointed.
