55 Watt bulbs in foglights

Sup guys,


Was wondering if anyone here is running 55watt bulbs in the foglights. If I run 55watt bulbs in the foglight housing with 55watt wire harnesses will that damage my stock wire harnesses or foglight housing? Im worried since the housing is not made for a higher temperature bulb and will melt it. Thanks for your help.

you might blow some fuses. I have a HID kit in mine and it very bright.

55 watt ballast would most likely be to hot for the housing

normally we use 35 watts and its plenty of output

I dont mean 55 watt ballasts, Im planning to use yellow 55 watt halogen bulbs. I decided not to go the HID route for the fogs since its such a pain to install. Thanks

its mainly the same exact route your going
because youll mainly be removing the bumper what so ever

For just the bulb replacement you dont have to take off the front bumper.

For the 55w halogen bulb you should be fine. And there is no need to remove the bumper for a direct bulb swap.

From what I read on here for the halogen bulb swap all you need to do is remove the bottom splash plate and bend it out of the way so u can reach into the bulb correct?

Yes. Just make sure you tighten the bulbs into the socket correctly so there will be no water leaks into the housing.

For just the bulb replacement you dont have to take off the front bumper.

I never removed my bumper to install my Fog HID kit. I just laid on the ground, and even on H&R's there is more than enough room.

its allot easier using a jack and removing the front tires and removing those bottom corner plastic guard and top of the tire splash guard, after taking those out its hella lot easier, changing bulbs for headlights, fog lights and etc

Yup, that how I got my HID fog install too. The driver side is a piece of cake, but the passenger side is much harder to get at. I install the 6000K 35W HID kit from DDM Tuning. Love the brightness and color. I went back and ordered the 6000K D2S replacement bulbs ($15 for a pair, I can't believe the price)for my OEM HID heads. It will be here Saturday. I'm hoping that it will have the same color as the fog.

did you notice for the fogs there was 2 screws and one bolt on the chrome kind of plate where you installed the bulbs, i was wondering which one adjusts the lights, but ya ddm is very impressive, soon i might try 8k

It is the bolt between the two white plastic inserts. Counter clockwise will aim the light up high.

The fog light fuse is a 15 AMP fuse.

55 W fog lights will run around 4-5 amps.

HID Fog light kit will run around the same 4-5 amps, some higher (analog) and some even lower I've seen at 3 amps (slim digital).

The catch is that HID Fog lights kits will have a start-up to ignite that is higher, some analog will push 15 Amps, which is why the 15 AMP fuse will blow. Some go with a higher AMP fuse to avoid this, but I am unsure what the wiring is rated for so I switched out for digital ballast which run below 15 AMP start-up.

I'd be afraid of the extra heat melting the foglight housings.
