Air Condition ticking noise

Hi Everyone,

This may sound weird, but I get a ticking noise everytime I turn on my air condition. Right after I hear the noise, I turn it off. Have anyone ever had this happen to them, and how did they solve it. I wanted to have some information before I take it in to get checked.

does it continuously make the ticking sound or only when you turn the a/c on? mine makes the sound only once when i turn the a/c on and that's the compressor i know that. if it keeps ticking then it's not good, check if it's blowing out cold air or not.

The noise is continuous, until I decide to turn it off. And it is blowing out cold air.

if you turn off the "A/C" but leave the fan on, is the noise still there? If so, maybe the blower fan/motor has an obstruction in it.

No. The ticking noise stops when I turn off the A/C. I wonder if the compressor is going out.

yup, your compressor is going out. keep that thing ticking for long and it will start blowing minute dust particles through the vents.

I am also having a air condition problem. It just started today randomly as I was driving. When I turn the AC three notches up, and above, it begins to rumble...I mean the whole dash starts vibrating and it makes a pretty loud noise. The more I turn the fan up, the louder it gets. I am not sure if this is the same problem you were having, but does anyone have any idea what this might be, and how to fix it.

sounds more like the something is loose so extra power is causing it to vibrate or as if you have some kinda obstruction in your a/c system rather than a bad compressor.

That what i was thinking. Think I should bring it to the dealer to check it out. My dash is beginning to bubble anyway so I could bring it in for that and then ask them to check out the problem.

It is probably not a good thing to have my ac on with this right?

I found out that the noise and vibration was a problem with the blower motor. Got it replaced by the dealer and it's back to new!

I have a similar problem but the noise is always there, but gets louder when the AC is on. Any advice?

what about when you hear a clunk when you turn on the Ac, but goes away quickly and also when you turn it off makes a quick clunk

That's normal compressor noise.

Ticking def not good. The a/c clutch might be going bad or a bearing.

I brought it to the dealer to get it diagnosed and they said the noise is being cause from acorns and leaves obstructing the fan. The quoted me $120 (1 Hour of work) to clean the area out. I told them to hold off as that seems pretty expensive to clean out some acorns.

Does anyone know how hard it would be to clean the area myself? How would I get access to the area around the fan? Thanks
