Controls on Steering Wheel do not work

Wondering if anyone else has a similar problem and a solution. I have a 06 FX35 and the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel (specifically volume down, station down, and pick up telephone) dont work. All the other buttons work properly. First, it would only happen when the car was driven for 25+ miles or it was hot, but now they just dont work flat out.

My car is out of warranty...and dealer wants to replace the whole steering wheel to get those buttons to work. Replacing the whole steering wheel is apparently $1500+ since it deals with the airbag also. When I asked them what it was, they said the wiring burns out back there under the buttons or there is a loose connection. Any thoughts anyone?
Considering the up volume works but down button doesnt, its kinda weird it would be a burned wire? Any input is appreciated.

Possibly a bad connection. I would try and see if you can tackle this yourself with some diagrams.

The airbag is not sold with the steering wheel. If you were to buy a steering wheel the switches will come with it, however you can purchase the steering wheel switches on their own but they come as a pair audio/cruise

i don't think its necessary to change the entire steering wheel. if you're handy with tools, it shouldn't hurt to open it up and look for the problem.

Controls on steering wheel dont work!

All of my controls on the steering wheel stopped working except for when i turn the wheel all the way to the right, then all the functions start working. Anyone have any idea what to do or how to fix this?

Possibly a loose/bad connection or wiring harness.

sounds like a bad clock spring/switch holder assy... parts a bit under $200 & labor will be not much more than an hour or two...

you can reset the steering wheel controls by holding the horn for 3-4 minutes straight. Don't let go or you'll have to start the count over again.
j/k . . . sounds like a bad wire connection. In the old days, the contact ring would need to be cleaned and greased, but these new things are all electronic.

hey i got the same problem but i have t turn it to the left and its only my stereo control.

I just left it as it is, doesn't really bother me, I just use the console

My clock spring just went out and I had the dealer replace it since they were doing some other work. The part was only $149 but they charged me for 3 hours labor @ $150 per hour :eek.: ....either way its fixed.
