Megan Racing Coilover Thread

Any idea on the install cost or was it included in the price of the Coil over's? Trying to get a range of what a third party install would be including dialing in the height and ride.

Ok Ok already I get the hint! :sluggish::tongue (2): Here are the pictures, enjoy!
I have to say that the install shop did an excellent job with the install and does quality work. I would also like to mention that the shop made sure we knew that if something were ever to happen they will take of it with in the warranty and provide support even after the warranty period. Actually, Megan racing R&D was across the street and their head office was a few blocks away. Needless to say this shop has a great relationship with them and it was the representative at Megan that referred us to this shop.

I would just like to say that it is great to see the recent availability of coilovers for our beloved FX's from different manufacturers and now we as enthusiasts have a choice. However, lets not start on the bandwagon of "vs" threads or "this is better than that or that's better than this" kind of comments. Lets keep to the facts, reviews and impressions. Thanks.

As of now, no adjustments have been made. WE were told to wait about a week for everything to settle in and come back next week for the fine tuning to get the ride height to the exact specs we wanted. But I have to say the ride was EXCELLENT! I will let Humberto give a more in depth ride review and impression.

First Impresssions - Week 1

I have to say.... After my first ride with the new set up was like night and day compared to the Eibach's that I have had on for exactly 3 Years.

I always had the misconception that by using Coilovers my ride would be very bouncy or even Choppy. I've seen smaller cars just ride like crap as soon as they hit a pot hole or ride like a clown car when they are on uneven pavement when they install Coilovers.

This is not the case with my new set up... Right off the bat my FX feels very nimble and yet very solid... This of course can be attributed the new Shocks that came with the Coilovers.

The shop told me, as did Dr.2K: "Take it easy for the next couple of days. Let them settle in you should be fine"

Well I didn't listen...:tongue (2):.

1. I hit a couple of corners:
A. Hard Right Turn: Considerable less Body Roll Vs. the Eibach Spring Set Up
B. Hard Left Turn: Slight Body Roll Improvement Vs. the Eibach Sprin Set Up

2. Crossing Rail Road Tracks: WOW... Twice as smooth as my Eibach Set Up

3. Taking on an onramp: There is a great connector for the 110 Fwy and the 105 Fwy that some of CALI guys have used to measure the performance our of Set Up's. (I.E. New Springs, New GT-Spec Bars, New Sway Bars, Strut Bars.. EtC)
105and110.jpg

With my old set up, I was easily able to take this turn at about 75MPH and stay in line with out drifting either east to west on my lane....

Last night I took it at 85MPH....:eek.: The FX held it's ground and felt a bit more like my previous ride (Audi S8).

As of now I am happy with the set up. I will take picture of it by next week. I want the springs to settle in and do the drop that I really want to give my ride that ground effect that I am looking for.

As of now the FX sits about half an inch higher in the front than my previous set up and the rear sits about the same.

These are my first impression of the new set up: Smooth and Nimble

Not Perception...

I can sense it. The FX does not bottom out as much versus the old set up. Since the new set up holds the FX down and up when the weight is shifted there is less body roll and more response from the wheels.

I drive my FX hard when I can almost everyday and I can feel the difference versus how it was before..

My body remembers and reacts when I approach a pot hole, rail road tracks or sharp turns that I see everyday with my old set up. With the new one I can definetly feel the improvement and handling.

Good review Bert, I hope im just as happy with the ___. One thing I really like is the color,I really hate gold on my ride.:mad.: The red looks color matched with your BB's
