Story of my FX: Few pix inside

Well first I'll say that I couldn't be happier with my Infiniti FX35. Probably the most comfortable ride I've ever had the pleasure of owning! Before my FX, I was driving around a 2001 Honda Prelude. It was really fun to drive, loved every single mod I've ever done to it and it was definitely a great platform to learn from. Swapped the USDM motor to a JDM EuroR H22A w/ a T2W4 Tranny after blowing my engine on a HORRIBLE downshift from 3rd-2nd( I was at 8K RPM which is my absolute PEAK in this car). I bent a few valves and shattered a piston, to be quite honest the amount of damage was quite a bit more than what I was expecting. I came across the euroR motor/tranny setup and said wth! 11:1 CR, High lift cams with decent duration, and dual valvesprings. The tranny was what really sold me though, 4.266 final drive and the gears were so short I would be cruising at 75MPG at 4K RPM!! Awesome takeoffs though.

I've tinkered with him a few times since these photos, such as new JDM fogs, full ksport kontrols, as she sits in my driveway right now the exhaust is 1.3" away from the ground :) hahaha I'll post more recent pix of him when I can, these are just to show what he went through:)

Anyway......onto the main reason why I posted this..

Around September 09, I finally decided that I was growing a little old for a Prelude. I was shopping around and was really in the market for a four door, luxury sedan. I wanted something that people could still turn their heads to look at but also something that I could still have fun with and mod like I did my Prelude. I was looking at a few G35 Sedans, Audi A4's, and Lexus IS350's. One day, while at lunch with my father, he was talking about how he wanted to upgrade to a newer car, that he was getting tired of what was then his 2005 FX35. I hadn't even thought of the idea of owning one when I blurted, "Hey I'll give you $10,000 for yours, cash." At the time, I was only kidding expecting him to instantly deny my offer. A few days later he said he was down with my proposal. I couldn't have been more excited, a Ivory Pearl 2005 FX35 fully loaded with nav, tech, touring, and OEM 20's and only 76xxx miles?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?? I almost cried when he signed the title over lol. To be honest, he practically gave it to me for that price IMO.

Here are a few pix of when I got her:

After dropping about 90% of my money (:(((((((() on my car I didn't really have much to use to play around with, so I figured that if I was going to do any light mods it would involve making her look sweeter. I started off with the DIY bumper plugs, I can't stand looking at FX's with the front plate on, it's just such an eyesore.

Since my dad had the mount on for so long it dug into the paint leaving behind this nasty "shadow"

I thought it was going to look bad but it actually came out really nice!!

My dad decided to upgrade to the 2010 FX35 lol

I then decided to change both sets of lights to 6k HIDS

After the lights, I was kinda stuck so a buddy of mine gave me some 35% vinyl to use so I could smoke my taillights. I didn't quite have enough so I settled with this look.

At first, I didn't like how it looked but after leaving it for a couple of weeks it started to grow on me. I decided to leave it, after all it's only vinyl and I can tear it off at any time. Mostly, though, I've gotten positive feedback around town with how it looks.

And of course, my girlfriend also has a beautiful OB 2007 FX35

Well that's it for me right now. Since I'm a college student paying my own way I don't really have the funds right now to throw at my car. I've contemplated selling my Prelude but I have some serious boost plans for it in the future and I just can't seem to let him go lol. Future plans for my FX however include some spacers, OEM FX50 21's, and a full conversion to 2006 black interior. My girlfriend has agreed that when we sell her car, we're going to swap out as much as we can so I can keep her black leather and I'm hoping that the 2006 dash will swap clean, if not I'll figure it out :):), that'll be a few years from now but I can gladly wait:).

Thanks to all who've checked out my thread and please feel free to leave comments! Positive/negative criticism are welcome :) I won't cry I promise lol

Oh and I got that little license plate "Shadow" off by using polishing compound, turned out great!

great story i would say keep the prelude you can never go wrong with keeping it since you seem to love it alot. You might later on regret getting rid of it if you do, that's just my opinion

great story! and love how you supplemented it with pics!

looking forward to seeing you around on iS! Nice FX family you got there too

as for the interior swap and dash, you might want to hit/read up on turbocad6 (John). hes our resident mad scientist when it comes to the fx and has done not only the 06 body upgrade on his 03 but i believe also interior swaps, dash, etc. The list goes on - check him out in the forum subsection "turbocad's corner"

I think I saw your FX off of Bellaire at some point....

Nice story. I too was a BB6-8 owner 3 times over (00 base, 01 base, 00 SH) lol. I too modded the crap out of one of my ludes, the 00 base was built motor and turbo by st00pid, I also ran a euro type R tune via Hondata on the 01 base and had the rpms deep past red for fun one night lol.

Small world, maybe if there is an FX gathering we'll come across one another again.

Cheers,
Riaz

You got a great deal!!!

I know!! Totally got the hookup:)

I'm still debating on keeping it or not, it's sad to walk out and get into my car while having to walk past my Lude every day knowing that I'm not going to drive it. I honestly can't even remember the last time I drove him....

Very nice! Jealous of the GF, too.

Thanks! Here's a better shot of her

Thank you! As far as reading up on turbocad's corner, i've been all over that page already. I really do admire how innovative he is when it comes to pretty much anything having to do with his car. I can only imagine if he had a Ferrari in his hands lol. But I've already started to take a look at the pieces in the interior, everything seems like an easy swap, minus the dash. I really like how the center console is one fluid part on the 06-08 dashes instead of that square center that the 05's and below have. We'll get into it when the time comes:wink:

Have you posted on HPC or H-I? Man it really is a small world, I'm pretty familiar with St00pid's work and man HE'S AMAZING! What color was your Prelude, red? If yours is the one I'm thinking of then that was definitely a beauty to have. I hope we can all schedule a little Houston meet, I'd like to meet you all on here!!

Welcome to IS.

Thank you sir:tup:

glad to see it all work out for you.

Me too, me too

looking good with your projects. watch that savings account, before u know it - u'll need a 2nd job. I know I had to and still am.

your father did well on the 2nd gen, is his changing things up (on the fx or the SL500)?

Yes the turbo lude was red, but HPC was a long time ago when Lisa (ludegirl1004) ran the show. I am still on H-I, but usually stick to trolling the forum and once in a while I'll post in car pics and the OG forum. The red prelude looked essentially stock, with exception of the motor, everything was waiting to be finished to put on (OEM kit, Mugen rear wing, Regamaster EVOs, Aragosta coilovers, all Type S JDM stuff including the interior, etc). Needless to say I uhh spent wayyyy too much on her, I could have bouht an M3 brand new and modded that instead lol.

Jason (st00pid) is the best, but as a friend sometimes you have to wait until the customers cars are finished; my lude sat at Autologic for a long long time hahahaha.

Yeah I think Houston is going to have to have a meet soon!

Welcome to IS - I want to say you've been here for a while, just not posting a ton? Anyway - glad the focus is shifting. We really got to get a Houston IS meet going - we definitely have enough representation. Now it's just about organizing, lol...

nice story and nice fx ,you got a great deal . also welcome to :iS:,

Sure did! lol

Great looking FX... The whole neighborhood has FX's LOL..

Haha it's my little happy family:tup:

As far as his FX goes, he is talking about getting some 22"s for it and maybe a drop but it's his SL that really shines. It's a Lorinser SL550, and the rims on that are bigger than my stock 20's hahaha. I'll post some pix if interested.

Hahah I feel you man. I don't really post on H-I anymore either as I began to notice that the it turned from "Houston-Imports" to "Houston-civic,teg,rice". Man I'm really jealous about the progress you made with your lude. After my swap I was so broke I couldn't even afford gas:tears: haha but I definitely feel you when it comes to spending money it should definitely be on something that you'll love forever and I just don't think that my Prelude is it anymore. Send me some pix of it man, I'd really like to see it! As far as the meet goes, I'm definitely looking forward to it

Haha yeah, I've been a little creeper, mostly using this site for ideas. But as I came to read most of y'alls posts I realized that you guys were all very nice and very informative to everyone apart of this site. And as far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best most well put together forums that I've ever been apart of. Very informative, extremely helpful, and it's nice seeing people reach untapped potential with their cars:.smile:

Nice story & pics. It was fun reading it.
I can't agree with you more on the front license plates. Did you spray paint the plugs? You've managed to keep the 'pearl' look. Nice job. I thought about removing it too, but I can't do it until i buy the remote license plate because they'll ticket here like crazy.

Can you post a closer look of the plugs on your bumper?

I didn't use spray paint I used the OEM touch up paint from Nissan. Color Code QX1. Cost me about $15 from a buddy of mine. There are two coats, the base white and then the top coat pearl, that's how I got the pearl look. And yes I don't mind snapping a few more pix of the car in better lighting. I'll get them up asap.

Just returned home from my Asian vacation lol, was messing around with my DSLR and took a pretty interesting pic, I thought I'd share with iS :)

Hi, I've been following these threads, looking for ideas on what to do to my 2008 FX35 I got 3 weeks ago. So far I've got a K&N drop in, Z-tube ,tinted windows and side window wind deflectors.
What I really want to do next is get a t-rex or street scene grill but every where I look, I'm told that 2008 FX's have lane sensers therefore they won't fit my car. Is that true? If so could you suggest a grill for my Black & Brick FX and where and how to get one.
I like the looks of your ride thats why I'm contacting you.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

Lane departure warning is an option, therefore you may or may not have it. If you here a beeping noise when you are crossing lanes (without signaling) going 45+ mph, you have lane departure warning. Or you can look for a button under your steering wheel (to the left) with a picture of a car & lane mark. If you don't have eighter of these, you probably don't have Lane Departure and don't need to worry. Oh yeah, you can look for the camera behind the grille too.
