Burning Engine Oil?

Changing piston rings is basically a engine overhaul which is major and expensive! You may also need the cylinders bored oversize which means new pistons / rings as well. Engine would have to be pulled from the car!Just for fun, ask your dealer how much that would cost. How many miles on your ride?

About to hit 60k.. I really don't understand why is it doing that.. If is such a huge job might as well save up and replace/upgrade the internals..

i having the same issue.. and is annoying i change my oil every 3500 miles and it still burns oil like crazy to the point that it start flashing the oil sign on the dashboard.. i talked to a friend of mine ad he mentioned that it might be time to replace the pistons rings/seals.. now he said that like it was super easy..

questions.

how hard and how much work would that be?

if one get to do that kind of work what else should one replaced since that kind of job is not done very often..?

thank you guys..

Just see if you have oil in your spark plug wells, if so get new valve covers and valve cover gaskets. Took Andy around 7 hours to do.

I will look into that bro.. Hopefully that's the problem cause the piston's rings sound like a mission.

Hey guys...if you change your miles by time instead of miles...how often should you change your oil if you don't drive your car that much? 5/6 months? Or less than that? I've been doing like every six months...because I only do about 3K miles a yr but I know oil breaks down after a certain time....

Once a year should be fine.

Yesterday I was in my way to work the oil light flashed but I kept going on my way back home the car did the same thing when I checked the dip stick It was dry :eek.:. I immediately went to Walmart and bought a gallon of Mobil EP 5w-30 I poured 2 qts. The next day I checked the dip stick and the oil was still low I poured another 2 qts and now I am close to the normal level. I can believe these engines can burn so much oil! I might change the type of oil and see what happens. (10w-30)?

Maybe you are leaking oil instead of burning oil.... I think that is sort of extreme.

No, is not leaking at all. If you read in this thread the dealer said 1000 miles -1qt of oil and I've been using Mobil1 Extended Performance for 5000 miles.
Next week I will try another type of oil and see what happens.

So I read in the post our cars take 6 quarts of oil I just want to confirm that before getting the oil change since the place I go to only includes 5 in the price

Thanks for the confirmation I couldn't fin my owner manuals and figure this would be a great place to ask, in going to use mobile 1 0-40 how long can I go on oil changes if I use this oil instead, I would prefer to use synthetic oil but can you use synthetic after using regular?
