How to change foglights to HID and change headlight temperature?

I was wondering how do you change the stock foglights to HID? I don't know how to on my 2009 FX35. I have the HID's but getting access to them is a pain cause you have to get through the fender wll right? My friend at a NIssan Dealer said he would do it but I don't know how much it will cost me. Also how do I get to the back of the headlight on the FX to change the color temperature of the bulb to 5000K? Will the effect the functionality of the AFS system?

Oh yeah BTW I was wondering how come my foglights have a little moisture build up in them? THis is the second time they have done that. Any ideas? THanks so much guys!!

Well here are the answers. As I tried to do myself and looked all over it. Yes you have to do through wheel well to install HIDs for 2009+. I am goign to do DIY in a few days with pictures,so don't waste 200$ at the dealer to do the job which you can do yourself. About your low-beam HID,all is simple,remove plastic protector from the engine area,it will give you access to the headlight. Remove the cover of the lamps and you will see your D2S lamp there,simply change it with another color bulb,no need to change the HID unit itself,it won't affect AF as well. Before changing HID lamp,disconnect battery,as it is highvoltage. About moisture no need to wirry,probably fog light bulb is not tight in the housing,when you install HID bulbs it will come with rubber gasket,so more moisure :-)
 
Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I got one question though. How do you know the dealer will charge $200? The labor rate is cheaper at Nissan. Plus my friend works there so I get a big discount.

And I have a question about changing the low beam headlight. Does this mean I don't need to get to the wheel well to change the headlight? That's for only changing the foglight right?

BTW when are you going to post a DIY? I forgot to mention I don't have a jack. Does this work if you turn the wheel all the way to the right or left to get to the fender well?
 
To change headlight bulb,no need to touch wheelwheel,jsut remove protective plastic cover in your engine bay from both sides(careful with clips,they break easily).And then you will have access to your headlight easily. And go ahead change bulb out.

About 200$ assumption. In order to put HID for fogs,they will say you need to remove bumper and not just wheelwell and etc. It will make summ go up. But if you do yourself it is easy and the only thing you will need to find is where to mount HID ballast(which is not hard eaither on 3m tape). Let’s to do dealer math : 1hr remvoe bumper, 1 hour install HID 1 hour put bumer back and about 3-4 hours job,they charge about 40-60$ an hour,so count it yourself.

Do yourself,you will learn how to do it and also feel good you did it yourself and saved $.
 
thanks man. I got one question though. Do I have to remove the tire? Or can I just turn the tire all the way to the right or left and peel back the wheel well lining? Thanks!

I was wondering have you changed the color temp in your headlights? What was the outcome like :D

And is it neccesary to disconnect the battery? In the past on my other Nissan's and Infiniti's I've always changed the lights without disconnecting the battery.

I did remove my buls out of the headlight,to see if it easy or not to do. I haven't change color temp yet,but in process of doing that,ordered bulbs a few days ago. But i know for sure 6000k will look amazing on FX :-)

About wheel well,you can turn tire all the way out and work on one side and then turn tire all the way another way and work on another side. It will be a little hard with tires on the car,but no need to remove them. But if you want you can remove them to have easier access to mount HID ballasts.

As for me,when I am going to put HIDs in fogs,i am not gonna remove tires and just simply remove a little wheel wheel and put hids that way. I did liek that on my BMW x5 and it was fine.

i tried to do this isntall with some DDM hids.. but they didnt power on and i was told i would need a wire harness kit, that part of the install i assumed id need to take it into some who knew who to extend the length of the wires to reach the battery?

Try that and see if that works.

The DDM kit you have will have everything you need. You don't need to extend the wires.

Like jbaker said (below) use the OEM foglight power.

I didnt do that for my fogs...lol Mine use the OEM foglight power
 
Whats a good manufacturer of HID foglight kits to match OEM HID headlights? (BTW what temp is the factory HIDs? 5000-6000K???)

OEM Hid 4300k ;-)

I would go 6000k for oem hids, and put 6000k in fogs as well for best look :-) and without sacrificing so much light output
