Hello forum, I have a 2003 FX35 and I was told that I needed new tires because I heard a roaring noise when I am driving so I assume I would get a set, well I finally got he tires and I still here a loud roaring noise as we drive along. This is even wheel I am leaving the shop with the new tires so that wasnt the problem. I know a buddy mnetioned wheel bearing or cv axle but I am curious of some of yor experiences with the your FX

my guess is a bad wheel bearing. some fx members here has changed their before. do a quick search for "wheel bearing" and should provide some leads.

Agree it's the wheel bearing - but it's easier just to replace the entire wheel hub. There just happens to be a DIY...

wheel bearing as everyone else mentioned. Mine went at 100k. Not uncommon for them to go as early as 30k.

Sounds like an airplane taking off all the time=)

I had one replaced around 30k when I was getting inspection done. I think it was damaged due to impact. I never noticed any noise, but I think mine was on the way out and not quite to the point of making noise.

Wow

Ok guys I take it in to the dealer today and they tell me the wheel bearing on both sides need to be changed but they also tell me of you are (2) weeks out of your warranty so it will be 500 per side. I know a wheel bearing does not cost that much to change aint that a blip. Not by mileage but but date on the warranty WOW

1) try continuing to argue with them. I've had warranty work done a month out of expiration with some negotiations.

2) $500 per side is typical price at the dealership. How can you save money? Go to http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/ and buy the hub bearings for around $130/each instead of $220/each or so the dealership charges. That's an immediate savings right there.

3) Where is the sound coming from? If you have the time, just change one where you think the sound is coming from. There is no "labor" saving time by doing both at the same time. They both have to take apart each side.

If you fix one side and you still have the sound, then fix the other side. Price will still be the same in the end.

This is why you go in a couple weeks before warranty is up and get them to check everything or replace any little thing that looks bad.
