Well I have finally joined the tuned club. Took my FX to JTran Studios in Houston and had a mustang dynomometer tune with UpRev software. The shop did about 12 pulls on the car if I counted correctly. I've heard I shouldn't trust Mustang dyno numbers, but I'm more interested in the relative improvements (before/after tune). Don't really care how accurate my actual whp or tq numbers really are till after the FI install.

First pull was to run a baseline. This was my first Dyno ever, so the baseline was done with all my previous modifications in action. The car pulled 226 whp. My mods got me up to 226 from whatever stock was, but then comes the tune.

Rev limiter was raised (not removed) and speed limiter removed. He adjusted all my fuel maps for increases in power and torque across the band. Adjustments to AFR and the cam timing were made over about an hour and a half, followed by pulls to read out and confirm the new data. My FX responded by increases in power and torque across the board - it's obvious to me it's running better. Acceleration feels more free, as if I just made the car 500 lbs lighter.

Baseline - 226 whp and 217 wtq
217 wtq @ 4820 rpm

After tune - 246 whp and 255 wtq
255 wtq @ 2760 rpm

Here's the dyno sheet:

Good to finally baseline the car - I was excited as hell watching my baby up on the dyno. Cool stuff.

nice! do you feel the added HP?!

Absolutely I can feel the difference at all speeds. When at WOT, the engine seems to be revving up more quickly than before. It feels like the forward thrust comes on more easily. Like I said before - like the whole car is just lighter and more free.

Damn man, that torque improvement is amazing! How much did all that cost you?

EDIT: I just read your other thread. Nothing like free stuff.

haha nice. i always thought about getting my car tuned.

but i heard you have to buy a whole new piggy back because for the fx35 its hard to rewrite the ecu or something

Nope - if your tuner has the UpRev software and a dynomometer (and some skill) the FX is easily tuned (just like the 350Z and G35). Took about 1.5 hours to finish mine. It's like getting a new car - definitely worth the money over ANY other mod you can do, but even better after modding!

How much was it... and I got a 45... Whos done there 45 so I can see some numbers in improvements...

Here's a website for a Technosquare tune:

http://www.technosquareinc.com/350z.htm

But everything we are talking about here is specifically for the VQ engine and with an FX45, you have the VK. You would just have to ask if the shop you use has the ability to tune a VK. Prices vary from shop to shop - I have seen a tuning go for as low as $150 or as much as $700. Just depends on the shop and the equipment and methods they use.

There are a few members running Techno square flashes on their 45's. I have been pushing an AWD dyno equipped tuner shop in Seattle to purchase an UPREV license and they just stepped up. Over the next couple of weeks you will have myself and two other members - FX45Beast and Talal with 45's that will be UPREV dyno tuned to compare notes with. We all have approximately the same performance mods completed on our cars so it will be interesting to see how the numbers play out.

Can UpRev do the 45's? I know they do other V8's in the lineup, but not the VK45 specifically. Since TS can, it must be possible though.

Was reading that again from TS. Which is why I've always said that a basic +2 isnt the way to go. You're much better off w/ the timing adjusted as needed :

There wasn’t much room for improvement at the bottom end since the ECU retards a lot of timing by using a feed back system in stock trim. So, we have added more timing at the higher end to take additional advantage of higher-octane gasoline. This aids in improving torque from 3000 rpm and up[/FONT]

+1, GTO.

I noticed nothing (in feel or MPG performance) from my +2 timing mod, but huge differences after the tune. MPGs are still rising. Last I checked I had come up from 18.2 to 18.5 and I expect it will continue to rise as I only have about 8 days of driving on it since the tune.

mustang dyno reads lower than ANYTHING ELSE because it simulates a higher load.
Nope. Dyno Dynamics is the notorious heart breaker.

Dyno Dynamics < Mustang Dyno < Dynojet < Dynapack

From what I've gathered in comparisons... but yeah the standard is somewhere between Mustang and Dynojet numbers, but a standard can never be made since correction factors, loading and environmental factors (elevation, humidity, temperature) make it almost infinitely variable, so it's always apples to oranges from one dyno to the next (even from one Mustang dyno to another).

Those numbers are damn impressive... I would've been pretty happy if that were my FX lol... especially at $free.99??? Great deal and by far the biggest bang for your buck you'll ever experience ;)
