That's pretty cool. It's interesting to see how different people approach the same set of problems. I wish I had access to a machine shop... That would be da-:bomb:.

Wow, surprising that I missed this thread. Hey I'm Joe, I too was very unstatisfied with the aftermarket intakes available. I have a 45 and the options are even slimmer. So I did just what your in the process of doing now. A streamline more efficient desighn of the factory setup with slightly larger tubing completely enclosed from drawing in any engine bay heat. Other intakes all seemed like short rams, and of course colder air= more H.P. So I really wanted to make an enclosed system. It's mostly made from various silicone Tubing but I had a machine shop make a custom alluminum MAF housing which eliminated the sandwich 4 bolt factory connection for the airbox. This was truely the key. Also I eliminated the Vac and Breather from the intake path to flow even more efficent. I can't go into too many details cause I'm in the process of getting a patent pending status from the Gov on the desighn. CAD drawings are in the works and I should have it available for sale in the next month or two. I am more than happy with the end result, looks great, sounds nice and is not overdone, very clean install. I'm confident with a few minor alterations it could easily be adapted for the 35. I've have Proto2 installed now for over a month and have driven several hundred miles, no CEL or problems what so ever. It runs very strong on the highway, big difference over stock. You sure are right about doing the research. It takes a LOT of time and pacients to get it right but It's so worth it.:iS:

Well, this is promising, and for the 45 no less......did you file a provisional patent? If so post pics! And when you do Pick a few of the choice prototype images leading up to the final result.

Got tons of pics, and yes the provisional patent is the way to go. Allows you to protect yourself while you sell, but only for a year, then u have the option of getting the full patent for about 1700 bucks. I'm sending it in to the patent office at the end of next week when I have my CAD drawing completed. The guy doing this for me is dragging his feet a bit, but I'm trying my best not to rush him. Had a few people at the chicago area meet sighn a non-disclosure agreement for a sneak peek viewing, had a lot of positive feedback, thanks guys:tup:. It's so hard to be excited about what you have created without being able to share it with the same people you've created it for. Please be pacient, the VK is finally getting some love!

That's awesome man! The patent deal really isn't so important to me as I don't intend to market or sell mine. It's more of a zero-priority hobby at this point. Even still I only post pics of obsolete revisions out of my own paranoia. I have been talking to a local shop about getting it built once I decide that I'm happy with the design. I've also contracted a wiring guru friend of mine to make me the requisite extension harnesses for my TB and MAF sensor, both of which are going to be relocated.
So you said you're having someone else do the drawings, have you done any analysis at all? Is your product an intake or a plenum? Did you get a tune after the install? Can you describe it a little better without giving anything away?

It is an intake, not a plentium. I did not do a tune after install, just reset the ECU. Planning on pulling it off for a base before and after dyno number. It's a side project that turned out fantastic. I searched many hours for a 45 intake and really was not happy with what is out there. I knew I could do better.
Money is a little tight cause my hours have been getting cut at work. If I can produce something for the VK that works better and looks cleaner, think I might have a few takers. I'm only wanting modest compensation. This is not my first custom intake, I've modded every car I've owned. I'm an auto nerd and proud of my sickness, keeps me out of troubble. You're project sounds awsome, and it appears that without question your passionate and motivated to make it a reality. Don't give up on it! Looks similar to a LS1 manifold and if I read correctly the forward mount in-line TB and intake is a great idea! Simple and effective.

As starved for mods as the VK crowd is, I think you'll do ok.

Thanks! That's definitely what I'm going for, although with the 100+ hours I've put into the design I think the "simple" part may be a lost cause...

Wow! Congrats. Can't wait to see the final product and comparison numbers. If it does what you are claiming, looks halfway decent and the price point is right, I'm sure you will have more than a few takers.

Sorry Chuck didn't mean that your desighn was simple, I'm sure it's a dark beast to wrap the dome around. I was refering to the relocation of TB and intake. Simplicity= clean and less intake tubing= smoother less restrictive flow, GREAT IDEA:tup:

Thanks Dr.2K, happy to give my fellow VK owners something new!

Joe is one serious auto dude for sure. At the Chicago Meet a couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to take a sneak peak at his invention. All I can say is, it is a very clean and very nice looking intake. He did a great job. Joe, get some before and after numbers for your marketing will definitely jump start the sells. Good job Joe.

So as to not high-jack tchucks thread, I suggest starting your own thread when the timing is right and you are ready to present your product. You should have a lot of interested members.
