staggered on AWD

I'm looking at getting staggered setup on AWD. Narrowed the tries choice to :

295/35R22 Overall Diameter: 30.12 in 765.04 mm

265/40R22 Overall Diameter: 30.34 in 770.63 mm

Is that going to work, anyone with staggered setup on AWD???

turbo has a staggered setup on his AWD FX. You must keep all the wheels/tires the same diameter or as close as possible. But personally I would not go this route for a AWD system.

One of the key things you have to consider if you do opt to go with a staggered set up is that the diameter of the wheel (Wheel & Tire) should be not greater or lessor than 35.5 inches.

If you increase or decrease you diameter your Slip light will go off and you will probably ruin the AWD.. Meaning the front differential and or SVT joint.

I love my staggered setup & have no issues or problems with it really at all, the key thing to look at is rotations or revoutions per mile. I have a rotation per mile difference front to rear of 4. I wouldn't allow much more difference than that, 5 or 6 would probably still be ok but may get close to the point of causing occational slip detection becoming more frequent. 7 or 8 may be the point that slip detection becomes too high or frequient or that point may be ~10, 12? 15?? the higher the difference the closer you'd get to the point that the slip light would just come on & stay on all the time but that would have to be a pretty big missmatch I think. I don't know the exact amount of tolerable vs non tolerable rpm difference, but I know from what I've seen that 4 is trouble free for me so far & has no negative affects to the awd in any way really.

to put this in perspective, if your tires were 1/2 worn & you replaced only the front tires with new ones, you may have about that same difference front to rear, 3-4 rpm difference is not much of an issue really

You're getting great advice thus far. Here is another one to throw in the mix...
If you are purchasing custom wheels (DPE, HRE, IForged, etc) you have have them play with the offsets to make the rear wheels have larger lips while the diameter of the wheels remians the same. That will give you a larger lip in the rear, you'll be able to run the same tire front and rear, and the overall look will be that of a staggered setup.

Yea dont do it on awd its not a good idea trust me i had them on g35 coupe and on my m45 awd and it messed it up had to trade it for the fx!!

If you bought the wrong wheel and tire combo, why didn't you just buy a different set-up (e.g. stock size)? Why would you have to get rid of the vehicle?

A staggered set-up on AWD systems will work fine, when done appropriately. That has been proven. Some vehicles even come with a staggered setup OEM...MB C-class, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Nissan GT-R...to name a few.

Funny how so many people say over and over that it wont work when there are sooo many examples of it working just fine.

I love the look of a set of stagger wheels on a car, but I must admit that the risk to gratification result seems a little too risk, and quite honestly maybe not worth It on an AWD vehicle. One of the things that I'm contemplating when I purchase after market rims is installing different spacer sizes in the front (20mm) to those in the back (25mm). That could give u the look of stagger wheels without worrying of messing up your AWD, not too mention it will cost you a lot less (non-stagger rims) to pull of the visual effect.

risk? what risk? there is no risk if you spec it right, staggered is an awesome way to get an agressive look that your just not going to get with spacers. theres only so much you can do to make an fx look more agressive & a nice fat staggered setup does it well. of course you gotta drop it a bit too for best results  stagered may not be for everyone, but if you do have the option a staggered setup can be really sweet, & can also be fine all around with no problems or risks, not so much to be afraid of really

what good is a staggered awd thread without any pictures of staggered awd setups, heres one to start, any other staggered awd setups out there post them up :)

I just got my 22" staggered wheels installed yesterday on my '07 AWD FX35 and am happy to report no computer sensor issues after 200 miles of street and highway driving. I do have some wheel vibration between 65-75mph, but hope to get that fixed with balancing and/or tighter hub rings. The set-up I chose with a 38 offset and Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires is 265/40/22 - 285/35/22 which has a 10mm size difference in overall diameter. I could of gone with an even closer set-up by using 265/35-22 - 295/30-22 but wanted to keep the rubber as thick as possible. I will try to post some pics this weekend and let images speak for themselves, but definitely support the AWD staggered club!

Thanks for posting Ramsta, every working example helps to dissipate the cloud of uncertainty over AWD and staggering. Turbo cads wheel/tire combination is an excellent example of a daily driver that has had no issues. If it sounds like I am setting the stage for my opening arguments I also plan on running a staggered wheel set-up this summer.......

I also have the same set up and like John.. Here are some pics...

hey bert, you winded up going staggered? I thought you were dead set on the same size all around. what tires did you wind up going with? the same yoko advan's?

Was photo shopping some lightweight no-lip wheels on my ride today and it ended up looking like some kind of sucky BMW hybrid. I see your Iforged wheels Bert and it causes me pain man.....They look fantastico......

Great tire, but Pricey though, huh?
I think the Ventus would have been a way better value. Completely underrated. I also like the way they look & handle better.
