Ridiculous price gouging

So I went to a local dealership near where I live (the Tustin Infiniti Dealership) and the guy quoted me an estimate of how much installing the silver roof rails will be.
He said it will be roughly $1700, possibly close to $2000.

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard...

For just installing stinking roof rails????
I understand that putting on roof rails on an FX is not a normal, standard thing (I think someone on this board said that it is a trickier to install than normal)...but close to $2,000??

That just made me leave in disgust...

Has anyone had their roof rails installed onto their FX by a dealership or on their own (which is what I'm thinkin' I would have to do if I actually still want them)?
This sucks...

Yea, unfortunately i bought this FX used and it came without the rails.
I didn't think it would cost that much to install them later...I guess that's 'My Bad' on my part.....but really, that's a lil excessive to be charging that much for something like this....

the parts new are more than half that price, plus the interior needs to be partially dissasembled to remove the headliner & the dealers don't work cheap. the parts are still too new to be easily available used too. cheapest way would probably be to order the parts from infinitipartsusa to get a nice discount off of list, then have an upholstery shop install, I'm guessing that'll still cost you way over a grand anyway.

I've also heard that the first gen's racks can be installed as a whole on the second gen body. if you have access to a test fit it would be nice because first gen's should be doable for well under a grand used & installed

Does he have an '09? I don't know anything aside from that ride says "FX45", but maybe that is wrong.

It should be waaayyy cheaper if you get it done by a side shop. Infiniti is just doing there job by giving you there,"off the wall" labor prices. FYI... I was refered to the "top custom paint shop" in Tampa, fl, when I wanted to paint my roof black... Like the panoramic (spell check) look. They were gonna charge me $500 total, $200 for the labor. I said WTF FOR, it's just a roof...? They told me about removing the roof racks and the whole 9... so it's a lot of work to take out, so I can only imagine the work to install them. It can be done for way less than those f!@#er's at Infiniti.... So keep your head up. It's highly possible to get done for a reasonable price.

turbocad, that sounds like an incredible idea....i would be so stoked if if the 1st gen roof racks fit the 2nd gen fx and be way less than a grand....would literally make my year (all 20 days of it so far ;) haha)
though I don't even know how I could go about testing that...as i'm sure the dealership would not just "try it out" to see if it does fit...

stulax18, i drive an 07 FX45

Yes, so you drive a first gen. I'm not sure how the fact that one fits the other will help you?
I think TC thought you had a 2nd gen, so those roof rails aren't as readily available used as the 1st gen rails are. I r confused.

omegared2, thx for the encouraging words....i was seriously steaming at what the dude said to me when he was giving me my estimate...sounded like he was just pulling numbers out of the air and trying to see if i'd bite....1700-2000?? seriously? for roof rails?

but it seems like all the dealerships are out there to make a pretty penny...cuz the Mission Viejo didn't actually give me a quote, but he said it would be very expensive as well.
Just dirty as hell...

Ahhh....icic...i think i confused myself and in turn confused you...my bad
for some reason, i thought my car was a 2nd gen (since I have a refresh interior from the older FX's)...but yea your right, i am driving a 1st gen  at least exterior-wise

Yeah, it's all confusing with the refresh in 2006. The good thing is there is no 2nd gen 45, so as soon as I saw that I realized it had to be a 1st gen. It shouldn't be too hard to find some used roof rails for sale.

wow, my bad, don't know what made me think it was a new fx, guess just the whole dealer part. the 03--08 is the same, going to the dealer for a roofrack on a first gen is like going to the dealer for new rims or new headlights, you just don't do that :tonguey: you should be able to get used rails, crossbars & installation for 1k or less, may take a little patience before a pair pops up though
