This DIY is confirmed to work for 09 FX without Navigation. It allows for the Aux input to work while the vehicle is moving. (DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK)
Basically, this is how the Aux input works. Emergency Brake must be on (e-brake wire for the Audio Visual Controller must be grounded) and the vehicle cannot be moving (AV unit cannot detect a speed sensor signal). So, basically for this to work, you need to tell the AV unit the e-brake is on by grounding the e-brake wire and make sure the speed sensor signal never makes it to the control unit.

Grab the silver ring directly below the shift knob and pull it down. It will expose a metal clip. Pull the open ends to the side and take it out. Take the knob off by pushing the button and pulling it up.

Open the lower center console storage bin, using your fingers pull the plate forward.

Lift the plate out.

This next part is a little bit hairy. This part requires the most care. There are six clips that hold the center console trim. One at each corner and two at the center. Lift up at the back end first. When these two are up, slowly use one finger and slide it along the edge between the chrome strip and the piece. Once the driver side’s middle clip is lose, do the same on the other side. DO NOT just lift from the end hoping it’ll unclip the other four clips. Once both middle clips are lose, slowly slide your finger along the opening until the front two clips are off. Lift the trim and disconnect the connector.

The ash tray has four clips. Pull from the bottom until the two lower clips are off. Get a small flat screw driver (be careful not to scratch the ash tray or console) and insert it into where the chips are. Push the screw driver toward the doors in order to pop the ash tray out. Once it’s out, disconnect the connector.

Remove the two screws holding the AC control/radio panel.

[Dead Link Removed]

[Dead Link Removed]

Remove the two screws holding the upper radio panel/AC vent. This is one piece. So slowly lift from the bottom and unclip the three clips on the top.

You should now see this.

[Dead Link Removed]

Unclip the harness that attaches to the upper trim.

[Dead Link Removed]

Unclip the three connectors that connect to the AC/lower radio panel.

[Dead Link Removed]

[Dead Link Removed]

The AV control unit is the one with the disc slot. It is held in by four screws. Two in the bottom and two at top.

[Dead Link Removed]

[Dead Link Removed]

[Dead Link Removed]

Pull the AV control unit, the wire harness we want to work with is the one on the left of the clip with three black antennae wires.

[Dead Link Removed]

The top row left most two wires are what we will be working with. Wire 107-RED is the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire. Wire 106-VIOLET is the Parking Brake Ground wire. Cut the RED wire and tape them up on both sides so the wire is not exposed. All we want to do is make sure the signal does not reach the AV unit. Next, cut the VIOLET wire and take the side coming out of the connector and connect it to a ground. (One of the four mounting screws is good)

[Dead Link Removed]

[Dead Link Removed]

Now put everything back in reverse order. Make sure you connect everything. Take your time or you will forget a connector. Once you’re done, you should be able to use the AUX input while the vehicle is moving.

I'll do an update once I have a chance to look at the wiring diagram for the Nav equipped FX.

good job.. its innovators like you that progress this site! thank you for this. I know when I get the 2nd gen I will look back to this thread.

Thank you very much for the confirmation on the compatibility and the write-up!

It's unfortunate that the NAV ones are much more complicated because NAV would not work properly without the speed signal. Do you know if there's a way around this?

sweet first real mod diy :)

how long did the whole process take and is there any side effects?

Real time would be about 45 minutes. It took me a little longer because I was going in half blind and I had to pause to see what the wires were. No side effects. The ground and speed signal wires only serve one purpose, to control the AUX input function of the AV controller.

I will take a look at the wiring diagram for the Nav equiped vehicles next. Factory equiped nav systems usually run off of two inputs for location. GPS and vehicle speed sensor. The GPS is for general use with the VSS for times when GPS is unavailable such as tunnels.

Most importantly, on many vehicles, the NAV controller/processor is separate from the AV controller. So, doing an AV controller AUX input brake bypass won't affect the NAV system. *The Vehicle Speed Sensor signal does not run on just one wire. From the source or ECU (depending on the system) it gets split into many outputs. *Cutting one doesn't necessarily affect the others.

For instance, on my 04 Lexus LX470 and previous 06 Toyota Avalon Limited, I bypassed the vehicle speed sensor signal to the AV controller without issues. The GPS always kept up with the vehicle. I've been in parking structures, tunnels, mountains, downtown, etc. and the Nav screen has always kept up including showing the car turning.

I'm not sure if Infiniti's system runs off of one combined controller or two separate controllers. I will take a closer look at the FXs diagram to get a better understanding of the system.

thank you for spending your time looking into this matter! I was under the impression that the G37 people had to use some sort of relay/switch for the speed signal to switch between feeding the speed signal to the GPS or not. That would be a major hassle. But what you said about multiple VSS signals feeding to different places makes alot of sense :tup:

I love this DIY as it's going to really help when I do my USB connector mod (moving it to the front console next to the ash tray).

One thing I recently purchased that others might find helpful are these trim/panel tools available on amazon: Amazon.com: Actron CP5011 Panel, Trim and Molding Removal Set: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41xuvaMYOkL.@@AMEPARAM@@41xuvaMYOkL

For $15 bucks they can really help (especially with the center trim piece) and are much safer than a metal tool.

Anyway thanks again for the DIY!

big props, very detailed and nicely explained.
Can't wait for the nav mod! Hating the fact that i can't enter an address if my car is moving!

Great mod and post for the FX Nav hack! :.smile:

rijc99, any luck on the FX 09+ with Nav mod write up soon? I would love to crack open my FX first real mod.

I promise I will look at it this or the next week. Sorry for the delay.

This works on the 2005?

Not sure about the wiring. I can take a look after the 09 navs. I assume you have nav?

GReat write up! Ive read somewhere that the nav will let you input if you cut the VSS signal...........but it will also stop the arrow from moving. And When you put power back on it takes a little while to catch up. Might be a tricky one for us nav people
