USA Spec PA15-NIS install

just did this today, started @ 12:30 and finished up about 10 mins ago....damn those stock wire harnesses are in there tight, kep thinkin i was gonna rip em! just realized i might need to get back in there and connect a ground wire since i have a 3g nano.

funny thing happened, when i put everthing back the final piece was to attach the clock wire harness but then my hazards started blinking nonstop...took some backtracking and realized the hazard blinker harness is the same exact size as the clock so i accidentally switched them.

thanks to skillet for making this walkthrough, w/out it i wouldn't have attempted this on my own.

I'm buying this when I get back from Washington state.

Already help installed one In my friends FX it should be easy.

Thanks for the DYI!

I had to do the one time setup. In fact, I had the guy from the company I bought it from on the phone and he walked me through it step by step (same as the instructions). Basically setting the presets.

If you can control everything thru the steering wheel and stereo, curious to know why you didn't put the ipod in the center console?

I was going to try to install it myself , but I'm afraid i might break something lol, just going to have a local shop install it for $60

WOW! $60. Local shop wants $200 plus $50 additional to put it anywhere but glovebox.

Good luck on the install.

Because when it's in iPod control mode, you control the iPod from the iPod itself. If you're connected and operating it through the headunit, you can't flip from artist-artist whenever you want. You basically create playlists and just listen to those. I like the free control of operating the iPod however I want (while my wife is driving).

HEY guys sorry i didnt post pics, but i just installed my usa spec and it works like magic! everybody with a sat button should get this interface. Im about 200 dollars away (or 5 days at the high school gas station job ) from amassing my new audio system with components subs and possibly a new head unit custom installed where the clock panel is.

question for the guys who have song names displayed on their screen, you obviously have the SAT button do you also have the sat radio module? just wondering if i'm doin something wrong...

mine is just plugged in the back of the HU, no sat module. Something quirky about the interface makes it so u need to start the car before your ipod once, or at least i did.

When i first threw it in, every time i hit any preset button it switched back to the radio. I then found after restarting the car, that presets 1-4 and 6 are for playlists and 5 is for direct access mode.

To display song text, just hit that sound knob you use to adjust bass and such. It should now have an additional function that appears first. The first time you press it, the song and album and artist should display under "channel X"

Thats how mine works, and i used the 10 pin harness in case anyone was curious.

thanks rafec,

can't believe i missed that! this is a great nifty product but their documentation is horrendous. even tho it displays artist the 1st time press the button, 5 secs later it reverts back to XM-001, is that the case w/ yours? also, the 2nd time i press the button it says 'song title' but then it just shows the playlist title instead of the song titles..

On mine it seems to hang around on the artist title for a while, i havent noticed it revert back.

Also, i tend to just use direct mode, since i glued a "apple universal dock" to the dash with the IR port, and therefore i find playlists at stoplights or before i head out, and use an apple remote velcroed to my console for quick control.

In direct mode it also shows the song information on the ipod, not just the ACCESSORY CONNECTED screen, so thats enough song title for me, and i like the album art

Hope that helps!

I have professional installed, and it work great but I can't change the track on the steering wheel when i'm in all song list from Ipod and I have to change track from the controller in center console. Does anyone have this problem?

Just ordered the USA SPEC PA15-INF today. Hoping to have it delivered & installed by next weekend. Will have to set up the iTunes to match the new way of using the iPod.

Hey Gang,
I have Factory SAT (I actually just installed it, car didn't come with it).

When I went to buy the USA-SPEC PA15.. it said it's for without SAT.

Is the NIS version without SAT, and the INF version with SAT?

thanks

Setup notes...

I recently installed my kit using this thread as the main reference, so I figure to add some helpful notes. Installation is truly basic, just remember to lay down a towel if you're not removing the shifter console... yes, I left some deep scratches in the finish. My config was the folder + direct setup: dip switches all off 'cept for 3. After the initial Ipod setup the only confusions I've had were the same as some others: getting the display to show the song title and using the steering controls for track up/dwn. The former can be done, the latter can not... I confirmed this with the USASPEC guys. The key to displaying the song title was basic, but not intuitive. You toggle between the choices by pushing the audio knob: artist > title > bass > treble > fader > sensitivity > display options. Once you get to display options this is where it can be confusing, to choose song title, you have to turn the knob until you select CH Name, NOT title. Once you do, the song title will display along with either a non, or a random (RDM) prefix to the title. If you were like me, you would've selected the choice of 'title' expecting song title and only getting the playlist name... how silly to expect title to mean song title. :tonguey:
