FX-R clear lens mod

Hey Soonster, I see that the light output gets reduced towards the sides which is normal I guess.
I see some of those Mercedes and seems like their projectors shoot out greater light outputs even towards the sides of the car.
Do I need something like E30 lens to achieve that kinda light output on the sides as well?

hey, I dont know about the E30 lights but I believe it has to be 2.5 in width to retrofit the project housing mount. the ref pics I have on this thread was at close range against a wall. I had taken more pics of it being further away , with and without fogs.

^^^ might have more to do with the type of bulb used. I believe they use Osram.

you maybe correct, but I dont have the budget for Osram and settled for morimoto's. I'm no expert but I'm sure someone else can chime in.

now that's the coverage I want

Soonster I did take a look at your garage photos and compared to the above pic I attached your 5000k output towards the sides seems to be weak.
Your lights are awesome it's just that I'm wondering how I can achieve the wide coverage seen on the above photo... I just found picture somewhere and it didn't say what lens and projector it was. That's similar to what I see in higher end Mercedes though such a wide coverage with good light output towards the sides.

Okay I think I got the answer... it's the projector housing. For example the projector housing from Acura TL seems to cover wider area and puts through good amount of lights even towards the corners and sides. I guess I need to swap my projector with a different one if I want that kind of coverage angle.

Does anyone know how to get the metal ring thats holding the lens put off? I don't want to pry it off unless thats what your supposed to do, lol

Nvm got it...

for future ref

just pop metal slits in the ring upwards, then the ring should come off with minimal effort

glad you finally attacked this project. the projector cuppling takes a little patience and some finer tools.

pics are a must when you are all done. :smile (2):

^Thanks soon for sourcing the lens for us local folks. :good:

Now onto pics. Spent a little time after work the past two nights working on this. Not difficult if you have opened your headlights before and the results are :good:. Now for the pics:

FX-R on left, OEM on right. Aside from the glare from the light you can tell the FX-R is much much clearer

FX-R installed, dots from lights are much more focused now.

up close to the wall, HID fogs off

crappy pic but my 6k morimoto HL, 6k DDM fog, and 6k DTRL LEDs are still pure white. I was afraid that after the FX-R the headlights would be too 'blue' compared to the rest of the setup.

Thanks for looking!

I might be doing this mod to my headlights and in the mean time paint all the chrome into black and then re install the headlights and just keep the sports head lights in storage.

I got my fx-rs today. question. is there a specific way to place the lens? seems to have notches on the side, and on the lens it self, have a rectangular patter with lines thru it.

All the FX-R I had looked didn't have what you described. Did you purchase their Premium FX-R or Valued?
Should be fully clear see thru, then again I'm no FXR expert.

the value ones look exactly the same they will have small imperfections that you wont see when they are in the lamps. I ordered a set of the value ones for my friends G lights ...He will never know

also what soon said ....take a picture of them

is there something taped under? seems like more like a defect, have them send you replacements. lots of other had posted pics of the actual projector lens. good luck.
