FX-R clear lens mod

No, sorry i don't. I'm still working on the headlights as a side project in my spare time so it may be a little while before I have a good cutoff pic for you. There are some pics on the retrofit source's webpage but I've seen better pics on some other forums(I can't remember which off hand) that show the beautiful colors and cutoff side by side with a stock lens. For $30 (value lens) you CAN'T go wrong if your planning on opening your lights up. If you aren't planning on opening them up then it'll be a bit more effort than is worth it. I couldn't see any imperfections with the value lenses.

I did this mod on my GF's Element. I retrofitted some FX projectors w/clear lenses into her headlights about a year and a half ago and you can definitely tell the difference with the blue/purple flicker at the cut off point. When I drive her car and she drives mine behind me I'll watch in my rearview mirror and when my car bounces it just gets brighter like someone is highlighting you. When she drives her car behind me I like to just watch it in the mirror (I have ADD) as the pretty lights dance in blue and purple hues......
she has 6K lights and it's still VERY noticeable with the flicker. I had just ordered a set of FX-R lenses instead of TSX-R's for my lights that I'm gonna mod but now I'm worried cause of the fitment issue with pre/post recall.
It's really hard to tell the difference between clear and frosted lenses, you gotta look REAL close. If you can see small dimples or a slightly textured surface then it's frosted and if it's completely smooth it's clear. without a side by side it's real tuff to tell.

OEM will give you the most "color flicker" as you drive and the most light output although 5000K will appear to light up the road in front of you better due to the purer white output. I think either OEM or 5000 will make you happy

So if i was to order up a set would you run the OEM bulbs or step it up to say a 5000K pair ??

OEM in FX projector lens still looks too "yellow" for my taste, even with clear lens mod. I'd go 5000K, best compromise for output and color. 6000K is great but loss is noticeable but my HID fogs make up for that.

Cool I guess Ill try the OEMs first, Im just worried they will look weak but I guess the lens is what robs them of color.

im gonna order the lenses, I wanted to get the bulbs sorted out so I con order at the same time if need be

Hey - it has been almost a year since anyone has updated this thread... has anyone confirmed that the "post recall" projectors need the TSX-R lenses as opposed to the FX-R lenses... I just bought 6000K bulbs and plan to take apart my headlamps for painting and want to switch lenses if it makes sense to do so...

I confirmed, if that's enough for you:
"I bought the FX-R clear lens and found out it only fits the pre-recall projectors. You need the TSX-R clear lens for post-recall projectors."

So would these lenses combined witk 6000K be a bit overkill....??

Sent from my GT-I9100

Yes, not really necessary. But if you're in there and you want to, might as well.

6000K is just fine and tweaking original shield and spacer mod.

bring this thread back, I just order a few pairs..

looking for any tips/guides from the members who have done this already. thanks.

Which one you ordered? FX-R or TSX-R. If the projector you working with still has double shields in it, just snip the front shield off. Once the front shield is cut off, you bend the back shield as far back as you can. Don't worry about if the back shield rub the bracket in the back, it only move when hi beam is on. I post some pics later this evening when I get home.

FX-R lenses, most likely paired with pre-recall headlights.

I'll keep in mind of the "double shields", but having pics will be super :smile (2):!

Here are a couple of iPhone Pics. I went with 6000k as well.
