Breaking In My New FX35

I am finally receiving my new FX35 2010 today. Very excited. I was wondering if anyone has a tip or two for propoerly breaking in your vehicle when you are 1st driving.
 
Avoid the inevitable temptation to see how fast you new car is compares to your old car. Also plan on doing a real early oil change. Maybe even now. It's amazing how useless the filter is in taking out the metallic flakes you'll get in this initial batch of oil.
 
Totally agree with Alan and Rijc99.. Do a long trip from and back and change the oil when you get back. Also don't try to brake your old vehicle record on how fast you can get from one light to the next.. I would say drive it gently for at least 3-5k miles.
 
I am under the impression that driving at constant RPM, for example highway driving or a long road trip at consistent speeds, is not a great way to break in your engine?
 
Just vary your RPMs constantly. I usually go for some nice long runs on some paved backroads where I can change my speed every few minutes. Try to keep it under 4,000 RPMS for the first couple thousand miles (it is okay to get above this once in a while)
Do not use cruise control until it is well broken in.

No jack rabbit starts or sudden stops, you are also braking in the rest of the drive train and braking system.
 
there seems to be two ways of breaking in your car. One is to go by the book and take it easy, no constant rpms, under 4k rpm for the first 1200 miles. The other is to drive it like you stole it. There are people that will swear by one over the other. All depends on which one you believe.
 
i recommend takin it easy, my friend just bought a brand new bmw 135i and killed that thing as soon as he got it, it made up to 2000km then the engine blew ...15,000km later he blew a second engine :tdown: on a brand new 09 135i lol
 
I would recommend put in break-in oil. Drove about 2000km at less than 3500 rpm most of the time and then drain the break-in oil and put in the best engine oil then your engine is properly break-in with long engine life.
 
I'm pretty sure the need to break in a car is a thing of the past. I don't think there is any benefit on most modern engines. I do agree with an early oil change though.

On the other hand, your ECU will get used to your driving style and adapt to you. I would drive it exactly like you plan to drive it normally. i.e. don't change anything about the way you drive just because it's new.
 
YOu should see how the people who unload cars abuse them. I am pretty sure, that most of the our brand new FX35 had already seen redline, hard braking, and other sorts of abuses that would make our heart cringe. So in short, I think, the break in thing is pretty useless. Just drive it like how you would normally drive a car. How often do you really hit red line driving to and from work?
 
my car makes a weird noise (ticking) in the snow when i break, with awd lock. it only happens when the car is about to come to a stop. and its something new u guys think it might just be because of the snow? ( CANADA :( ) and i did some research i would say i have similar noise as ///3903

any feedback? thanks guys.

My Dealer called me when the car came off the train, and I went with him to pick it up from the yard. I insist on it on every vehicle I have ever bought. No ripping will be by my babies unless I am behind the wheel.
In terms of braking it in, when I bought the Porsche, they told me to keep it easy for the first 1,000km (so no track driving). When I bought the FX35, the dealer told me that the engine is already ready to go. Everyone has a different school of thought on how cars should be driven
 
i remember 2 years ago when i took delivery of the fx35 there was a piece of paper in the car signed by some dude in japan. it read something on the lines of - before we shipped your car, we unleashed it on a track to made sure it didnt fall apart. I asked my dealer what this was about and he told me that every infiniti, before reaching america, has been driven aggressively by a 'professional' to ensure quality and performance. that was convincing enough for me not to not perform a break in period lol

That's crazy. My car had 3 miles on it when I picked it up.... That's a short test drive by the pro! :tup:
