vibrating steering wheel

so i have had my FX45 for 6 months now and the whole time i have had the car the steering wheel has vibrated while cursing on the highway at 65mph. So the first thing i did was rotate the tires about 3 months ago to see if that would change anything but no change. The second thing i did was have the wheels balanced yesterday and still no change. The vibration isn't terrible but if you let the wheel go you can see it shake

Does anyone have any suggestions on what my problem can be?

Did you check tire pessures?
Are your wheels stock?
see this thread--///7088&highlight=steering

Also I talked with the dealer and they said something I can't imagine could cause this issue but they said that eng harmonic balancer problem could cause vibration that could seem like this as well. Anyone heard this one before?

So def not a tires wheels situation.. I used to have the same situation.. I did the same as you.. Find out that my problem were the rotors.. Changed the rotors and problem solved.

+1 - Rotors OR hubs.

The car could have hit a curb and bent a hub before you bought it.

Your rotors could be warped and need to be turned down (machined flat). If there is not enough rotor material to turn down, you might just have to replace the rotors.

There could be other brake pad/brake system problems, but I'd guess rotors.

yes there are the stock rims and yes the tire pressure was set yesterday before they were balanced

well i hope its just the rotors and not the hubs

thanks for the advice everyone.

Actually hubs are cheaper than rotors! $150 at infinitipartsUSA. Make sure you get the correct AWD/RWD front/rears if you end up going that way. Cross that bridge when you get to it. Rotors first - a shop like pep boys can turn your rotors for pretty cheap.

Does Pep Boy's do the on car turning? I heard that the on car turning is the best way to go.

My problem with steering vibration between 40 mph and 60mph was due to warped rotor problem it's fixed completely now ---see this--

95% of my issue did turn out to be a bad balance. 7th time was the charm. I suspect any remaining vibration is a combination of road imperfections and warped rotors. Time to switch to aftermarket rotors, I think the stock rotors are way too prone to warping.

Steering wheel vibe probably won't be road imperfections unless the vibe is not consistent (comes and goes).

It's not necessarily warped rotors - it just could be that they have a bit too much run-out (not installed perfectly flat against the hub). Getting them turned on the car would totally fix that - see MTN FX's posts, there's quite a few threads here about this topic. Aftermarket rotors can have the same problems - mine did! I'd try getting your rotors turned on the car before replacing the rotors.

I've had three sets of stock rotors between two FXs and they have all warped. The Centrics I have used have yet to warp. I'm sure there are other variables at play but my history with the OEM rotors is not good, and I am not hard on my brakes.

As for the vibration, it is not consistent and it does come and go which makes me think the remaining vibration can be mostly attributed to road imperfections. It is no longer a consistent wobble like before the 7th wheel balance, LOL.

Dam after I got my alignment done The vibration came back but only slightly.Guess I'll be looking at a road force balance next.I had excsesive toe in before allignment.
