Hi All. Today i went for a oil change and realized the guy had been using 10W-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic. This is the third time he used that oil in my car.

To my surprise most of the forums on here, recommend 5W-30.

Is this something i should be worried about ?

10w-30 could actually be better for your climate. I don't know for sure, but it may work better in the florida heat.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was kinda worried. Don't really understand the difference in the oil grades, so will have to research more.

Since i am using synthetic, i normally wait for 6K miles in-between oil change. Should i be getting it done every 4K instead ?

cool. That's a big relief. And yeah after reading about the grades, i think 10W-30 should be good enough for Florida. I guess i will just start replacing it a little sooner.
Thanks all for your advice.

The 10w only comes into play in freezing weather. The oil behaves like a 10 weight oil at cold temperatures. A 5w will flow thinner at cold temps than a 10w. In Florida, it doesn't get cold enough in most of the state for the difference between 5w and 10w to ome into play. In Minnesota during the winter, I'd opt for the thinner oil. But in Florida, the 10w is fine.

The 30 is the weight of the oil at high operating temperatures.

So my question is.. Is it ok to switch oil from one season to the next ie.(from winters to summer and vice versa)?

Oil

Interesting question!!..Living in Korea we have some real hot summers and real cold winters...would love to hear if different oils for different seasons is a must...

Got ya.. So you could go from one oil to the other on the right season as long as is the same kind..

I'm using a 10w 30 Castrol synthic since i'm at 70k miles, live in So Cal and do 25 miles one to work which i think is plenty of time for the oil to warm up...

BTW Walmart is the cheapest place i have found for oil and filters $10 less than the local auto parts store
