Hello,

Im ready for one last wax before the nasty Chicago winter sets in. Is there a product that would last about 5 months or so? Winter sucks! I cant stand all the freaking salt they use on the roads here, but without it everyone with their RWD BMW's would be in the ditch!
Any sugestions? Thanks everyone!

ZAINO, or FK1 (Finish Kare) are very durable form my experience
Syth Sealents last way longer than wax.

Funny as I'm about to apply my first and last wax of 2009 on my Evo. I liked the menzerna line, but it was a major PITA wax to use. This will be my first time using Zaino and then I will apply ICE on top of it. It will also be my first time using ICE.

On a side note (sorry to thread jack) anybody like Meguiar's Gold Class wax? I'll check out the detailing section on here for insight in the mean time...

Make sure the ICE complies with Zaino. My ICE didn't go well over the Mother's product I used before waxing as well as Meguiar's gold class. I liked the Meguiar's, but I think mine seemed watery if I remember correctly.

i hate the turtle wax ICE. I use the classic Mother's wax that comes in the tin. not the paste, the wax.

I usually claybar, mother's cleaner wax, mother's wax, mother's wax....

A sealant works great such as Zaino Z2 or Z5. I have used it on my last 3 Infinitis and it lasts all winter long. My vehicles are left outside all year and that stuff still lasts that long in the Great White North.

I must confess I am a Zainoholic after using it for the last 6 years.

The Mothers products are good. From alot of past experience, dont like Meguiars at all.
Ice is soso. Mothers QD is rockin better. Seems like all the QD's are pretty compatible w/ Zaino as either top coats or to moisten your pads during application. If you're worried about using them to apply the Zaino, I dont, Zaino cures hard like a shell, so those products likely will not penetrate anyway. They just layer on

I've always liked Meguiar's Gold Class, but its my back up. I've been using Poorboys Nattys Blue on top of their EX Sealant and it works well for me. Smells great too! lol.
I've only used Zaino once on the FX but I cant really say whether I like it or not. Zaino is all I had available and I was rushing through it.

Hmmm... well I just spent $150 on Zaino crap (could've done without the damn bucket). Now I just don't know what to put on top of the ZFX / Z2 / Z5 / Z2 / Etc / Z-CS... after that I have the option of: ICE, Meguiar's Gold Class, NXT Tech paste, or good ol' Menzerna (FMJ I believe). Those are what I have on hand and would rather not buy ANOTHER wax.

Of those 4, any recommendations as to what I should top all the Zaino treatments with? The paste is a huge PITA, the Menzerna is also pretty time consuming, I hear the ICE is quicker and have heard nothing aside from above post about Gold Class.

guys I'm never wax my any of my ride other than spray wax and spray sealant. Winter is approaching I want to stock up while there are deals going on. What kind of wax provides long last protection, the SHINE!!!, while easy for a noob like me to apply without swirling up the whole car?

This stuff is a pain in the ass... Z5 was very straightforward, Z2 applies streaky, hard to get it in a smooth even coat. Z5 was easy to remove, Z2 dried almost invisible. I had to inspect with a light up close and move the light around to get different angles to be able to spot places I missed when buffing it off.

I used the ZFX. The Z6 inbetween Z2 and Z5 seemed pointless and was also a PITA.

Here's one coat of Z5, sprayed on and buffed off Z6, then a coat of Z2. I will do one more Z5 and then one more Z2 before applying the Z-CS and finally Meguiar's Gold Class. That will be all the waxing I'll do for at least the next 6 months.

Clay bar didn't get out the waterspots that were probably embedded into the clear coat from rain drying on the car when it was sitting on the dealer lot.

Tomorrow Im going with the clay bar, Z2, and ZFX. I agree some of the inbetween stuff seems pointless. imo Im still trying to decide what kind of wax to use on the last coat. Im thinking Mothers. We will see.....

When I use Zaino, after I clay the car I wash it again.
Once dry I give it a coat of Zaino Sealant (I use Z2 for light and med colors, and Z5 for dark).
I do not use both.
After my application I use the detailer Z6.
Thats it for that day, the next day I will give it another coat of sealant and detailer. Only use afew drops of sealant for each panel.

I don't use ZFX because I wait until the next day and I do not do it when it's cool out.
I never have a problem buffing it off.

One guy on my350z had like 80+ coats of Zaino on his Z. He was obsessed and would always hear about their new products to try out.

I generally like to get at least 3 coats of Zaino Sealant on my vehicle during the summer. It seems to give good protection all winter and it is never garaged. That's why I like it.

Some people like to put a coat or two of their favourite wax on top of the Zaino for that extra shine.
I prefer not to because then I can't give it any more coats of sealant unless I strip the wax off.

IMO, since the Zaino is a "paint polish" system and is not a wax, you should "polish the paint" to the degree you'd like and then don't worry about that again until it's time to clay bar the entire thing again. That said, the remaining care after Zaino should be washing and waxing with your favorite wax, leaving the beautifully smooth Zaino underneath alone until you want to re-do the entire thing.

That is exactly what some guys prefer but as I said I do not garage my car all year long so I just go with the multiple coats of sealant for protection.

Are you not worried about the clear coat? It just seems like you're polishing brake dust and specs of iron into your paint every time you polish with Zaino without using dawn/clay.

I could be wrong, and there's no evidence to back up either side of the argument, but what about just re-waxing with a synthetic wax instead of re-polishing with Zaino?
