Help me with 24" wheels

hey jonny what's up. I think floyd benet field is closed off to the public, at least the airstrip & the hangar areas, nypd aviations got it all locked down, secured area. I was in there a week ago, friend is a cop in aviation & let me out on the airstrip to do some donuts & run between the cones on a training course they have set up for police training... was real cool, be nice to have a meet there but don't think he can get a bunch of us in there really though :frown:

i live very close to there and go in from time to time...ive actually never seen it closed off, especially since aviator opened up and the rinks are for the public. perhaps like you say, they were doing training that day. I would have loved to get on a closed course like that, but not with 24's lol. Ive been there for a G35 meet (few years back) and an M3 meet (less than a year ago) and a friends photoshoot at the beginning of summer. Youre technically not allowed to bring a large group for a planned gathering, but as long as everybody is cool and nobody tries to race or do doughnuts they never bother people (especially if you know one of them). I would definitely try to get some people to stop in on a saturday or sunday, i live about 5 minutes from there so its no biggie for me.

well there are different parts in there I guess maybe? where I went was all the way straight down with no turn offs, way straight down at the very end after a few turnoffs there's big signs on both sides of the road saying road closed, off limits, authorized personel only, whatever, then past that in there further theres a guard booth & then the area I'm talking about, maybe your talking about a different spot? is it off of one of those turn-offs? I'm not familiar with that area really, was only there that once & it was at night

you don't have to be too afraid of driving it hard on the 24's really, I did pochono raceway track runs & a lot of donuts & general abuse with my 22's all the time, & there 35 profile in the front & 30 in the rear... it can take it  what size tires are you running?

I've been to meets in the very first lot, you can turn a right into it immediately after entry and you pass the speed bump. Another time, you enter and a make a left toward the aviator facility, the meet was on the lot before the actual aviator parking lot, in front of the main building. Another time past the aviator, making the right ( only way u can go further) and all the way back by the water. One other time, all the way on the back between the water and the run down buildings. I will take a ride there next chance I get and see what's open or not and get back to you.

I'm running 295/35/24 all the way around.

yeah, I didn't get to check much else out there at all when I went.. lmk

as far as your 295/35's, I run mine hard all the time & I'm a little less rubber than you even I think, I'm running 265/35's in the front & 315/30's in the rear, there not as delicate as you'd think they are

John what width and offset were your running with these 315-30-22's . Were those the tyres you had in your shop when i was there...??

yea, 22x11 w +48 offset rear wheels

Why do many of the guys along with yourself choose for staggered...?? As our FX can easaly run the same size both front and rear. Ok i can imagine that 315's on the front would be a bit over the top.
But there are many X5 / X6 / ML's and Cayenne running the 23" with 315-25-23's Front and Rear, so why don't you....??

On my audi and for example on beemers, the best is to run staggered because you just have more space at the rear.

they like staggered because sometimes it looks better ;)

Haha, yes, I agree. I think staggered looks better but I personally like having the exact same diameter (AWD) and being able to rotate my wheels/tires. Some have the staggered look (larger lip in rear but same overall width), and that gives you the option to rotate wheels/tires, but then you end can end up with a larger lip in the front then. It all depends on whether you get directional tires too.

I love how the BMW SUV's have the huge foot print in the rear.

I'm not all that against staggered as long as it isn't that big of a difference. Both lip and width i mean. For example having an inch fron lip and 3 inch back is just to big of a difference.
Or having the front wheels all tucked in the fenders and the rears sticking out.

Usualy when i calculate wheels for my client i'll make and suggest an difference of say max 1 inch in the lip. So try to make it both as wide as possible to give the car the overal beafy fat look

But it everyones taste i gues

my setup is 3" front lip, 4" rear.

I did staggered for the same reason porshe ferarri lamborgini & all the other manufactures do when stuffing a very large tire in the rear... if there was an advantage to having the same wide wheel in the front then they could build the car to accept that of course, but they don't because a wheel that wide on the front will give you slow sloppy steering response & would complicate the alignment aspect of the steering geometry so much that it would be counter productive, especially where caster is concerned, it would put much larger stresses on the steering & caster would have to be reduced to compensate...

Yeah your right about that one. Even when being a wheel and tyre dealer you can always learn more theories
Hope to ever go lighter then the spidero's i have on now. But selling such wheels around here isn't that easy :frown:
