'03 FX35 over heating...

update: they called today they said something about a "pin hole size leak" in a hose that connects the whole cooling system.... thats all i have didnt ask too much.....

theyve ordered a new hose, once they install it we'll see.

So does that mean there was never air in the system, or are they saying that the pin hole is the cause of the air in the system?

Make sure they list that hose on your final invoice. You could save a fellow FX'er months of trouble...

yes please, i'd like to know which hose they replace as well.......nearing 80k miles, never changed the coolant but don't feel a need to yet.......the prestone coolant test strips show normal range.

Any of you guys want a test strip? I have a few laying around.

the air is coming in from a pin hole leak in the recovery hose, thats what they said could be the issue they have ordered it. i will get exact details if this come to be the issue.

they have finally called today & said car was ready, they said its fixed, no swish, no nothing...i am going to pick it up tomm, if theres anything anyone wants me to ask specifically, please tell me in the next 14hrs. It has been 5months. Is there anything i should ask for?

i would drive it straight to another dealer and trade it in while it is still running good. fx's are extremely reliable but it sounds like you have a bad one.

well i dont know what to tell you guys.....i have had the car for a few days & i have not even began to see an overheat session, cars running like nothing ever happened.....i asked dealer they said they tilted car to the rear when adding coolant & replaces a hose & tightened few things he said they never really found a pinhole leak, so the issue could arise again but it wont be as immediate....but as of now for me i dont know what to say i guess we're good for now.

What happened is -the problems i have been experiencing which are mentioned above, have begun once again. Every time I go to dealer to get coolant added back into system after it overheats they are amazed time & time again like they don’t know what is happening. & maybe they are not educated enough on what is happening, so that’s fine but I need to tell Infiniti that & get refunded on parts I should not have paid for or at least try, either way I just want them to know. As of now I have taken my car to a local mechanic that only operates on imported vehicles, mainly he deals with Mercedes. I told him issues described in full & he simply said its clearly a head gasket leak, so he is going to take apart the engine from top, send the heads somewhere in Atlanta to see if their cracked/with any issues & replace the gasket. They have already began work. I will keep this post updated with hopefully Real good news in 2weeks time.

Sorry to hear you are still having issues. I feel this is not a common problem with our FX's, so don't lose faith in your car! Hopefully Consumer Affairs can help credit some of the money you spent.

Bump for updates...?

UPDATE:

I still have my FX35 & yes it is still over heating, but i have continued to drive it throughout the spring & into the summer with no overheat issues, i have added 8k miles to the vehicle since the issue first started, i have created a lifestyle & a methodology on driving it...pretty much stay in low rpm's & under 90mph, but gradually make my way to 90mph..../ The consumer affairs pretty much can do nothing. My dealer said they are looking for an AWD engine but it will end up costing $6k, so the way i see it, i drive it til it dies on me, but i will not spend heavy dollars on fixing this issues. I bought the car brand new in 2003 & it in reality has never let me down even after this blown gasket issue -it would be great if i could get it fixed in a financially prudent way but i am able to get from point a to b w/o issues for now, but i know winter's a comin' & thats when i may deal with times of no functioning heater....for now that is the status /-i can live with it -nigerians & haitains still say "you have a brand new car" when i try to negotiate the $10 parking fee in the city down to $6. cars got 126k on it now.

this seems to be a regular problem, I purchased a used fx 35 a couple weeks ago and literally 2 days after i decide to take it on a drive to vegas. Barely 20 miles into the trip it starts getting hot, I pull over and check under the hood everything is new, so I figure its a air bubble burp the radiator, put the cap back on and continue my journey, sure enough another 30 miles and temp goes up again. I called the dealership and they advise me to bring it in, I get a call 2 days later saying theres a smalllll leak in the head gasket.

So, you had the heads planed and the head gasket replaced by the most recent mechanic?

no -that one post awhile back that relates to a non-infiniti service garage who never did the job, he backed out saying he doesnt have the right equipment to pull of the task. Thats when i went back to infiniti & they had master tech come from VA & he looked at it & said theres a crack in the gasket & it only overheats when RPM's run high & engines been running for a long time on long trips once you slow down. Infinti wont replace the gasket because of high mileage, so they are looking for a new engine, which will then put the cost to about 6k -So i havent had over heat episode for over a month -im just pushing it to the limit & im not looking to spend 6k....im still putting about 1200-1500 miles a month on my car so we'll see how long this can go on...
