ECU Tuning - Technosquare or Local Tuner?

I'm thinking of getting a tune from either Technosquare, off the shelf, or going to my local shop that has an AWD dyno and tune capabilities.

In the end, they both cost about the same.

Engine mods? Drop in K&N or JWT Pop Charger and cat back exhaust.

Technosquare is well known in Nissan ECU's so that's why I'm leaning towards them. But, then again, is it better to get an actual tune for my car?

Like to hear people's thoughts -- I know it's all how good the local tuner is too, but let's just assume they know what they are doing.

TS is the only tuner shop I'm aware that has the ecu's cracked and can do the ecu flashes the way do without a piggyback system. I don't think your local tunershop can do this or they will have to end up using a piggyback system.

who's the local guy ed? group discount?

Ron, want to come with me? I asked if I'd get a discount if I brought a buddy and he said probably, but he will call me back.

Total turn around time is 3 1/2 hours. Someone on this forum got a dyno tune there I believe. The owner is going to call me back and regarding the discount and to confirm the UpRev software will work on our cars.

They do before and after dyno's so you can see actual gains and they use a dynopack so they take your wheels off.

Right now there is a discount on the UpRev software and license, so total out the door with 1 hour free tuning is around $600-$650.

Good info. Yeah, waiting to hear back from UpRev/GRD to see if they can do it.

UniChip is the piggy back they can use for sure, but everyone says that's old technology and not the best way to tune -- only a last resort.

Wish I could help...

I am very lucky to have a Technosuquare in by back yard...

Good luck in your Search Ed.

Rub it in why don't you!!

You also have auto explosion where you're getting your new body kit red paint job??? I'm catching up to you, might install my BBK this weekend and hopefully get my JWT intake... I'm still getting no response from Stillen or local tuners on if the VK56DE supercharger kit will bolt on, but everyone guesses it will...

Where are your 3 piece HRE wheels?

Okay, it's on.

UpRev needs to download my ECU, then create a file for GRD to tune.

So I need to stop by for 30 minutes for them to download it, they will send it to UpRev, UpRev will send a workable file back to GRD.

Then I bring in my FX45 for a dyno tune!

Ron you in??? I think you have to come down too and have your ECU downloaded because my unit ID Is "L1 L2" where yours for a 2005 is "G8".

But I'll ask if you are interested.

Do they have the ecu codes for your 03 for them to unlock it? If not I don't know how they can do that. But I guess you will know soon enough.

I called UpRev again, they said they just have to download the ROM then send it back for the AWD dyno tune.

Should I specifically ask if they have the ECU codes? I'm not knowledgeable in this area.

I just also did the ECU reset for the heck of it, man that was harder than I thought (okay, not that hard, I had to try twice).

I'll call you when I find out from UpRev if they can do it so we don't waste our times going out there.

Did you finish your projects on your car?

the gauges are at a standstill, but, i'm still trying to figure them out. i've been really busy with other stuff lately and haven't been able to dedicate any time to much else. if the gauges are a total dead end, i'll figure out something else. i've got another idea for something, but, i'm not saying what it is yet....

also, i ordered some ball joint adapters from john!!!!!!

Excellent, we'll both have big brake kits. I'm just trying to find some time to install them, they're used as coffee tables for now=)

All I know is TS had to send the ecu to Japan to unlock the ecu so then once it is unlocked they can make their own maps and do the reflash on the ecu. I just don't know what route UpRev is taking. If they have the codes to unlock the ecu then they can do what TS has done.

I just unhook the battery overnight for the reset, lol I can never know if I did steps correctly with the timing method.

The flashing check engine light is how you know. And if you mess up, it'll stay on=) Try it out!

i'm not sure how uprev is doing it but I know it takes a while. Someone else here already got their tune but they waited like a month before uprev got back to them. Who knows, they maybe be sending it out too just like TS. Uprev also sells the "Osiris Tuner" which lets you do your own tuning if you know how. It's no piggy-back either, it flashes.

Cool. I'll find out more today before I waste my time going there if that is the case.

UpRev did say 2-3 weeks for them to send back a workable ROM to the shop.

I also wanted to add that I wasn't 100% sure the full benefits, but after hearing it, I am all about the dyno tune.

Stock ECU's map the most generic tune to handle most altitudes, locations, weather conditions, driving habits, fuel economy, etc... There are several dips in the power curve and even if the HP/torque gain is only 5 hp/5 ft-lbs, it smooths out the entire power band and a more seemly acceleration. Your throttle will open 100% when you want it to and the engine in general will be much more responsive. Also making sure A/F raitos are right so you're not running lean or rich due to mods or anything else that might harm your engine.

And guess what, you get to map up to 5 maps I think, and put it in valet mode if you want and not have the engine go past X mph and Y RPM's. Or if you're filling up on 93 octane, throw on the 93 octane map. If you're stuck with 91, throw on the 91 octane map, pretty neat. All done from the cruise control button, with the cruise control button still functional.

Just sharing as I'm not an expert in this area and was enought to "sell" me on this mod.

UpRev can crack the codes no problem. It will take them 2-4 weeks, so I'm guessing it will take 4 weeks to get it back to the local tuner.

Now to find time out of my day to go there...
