Locking Fuel door FAIL

Since i bought my FX used in April, i have wondered from the day i got it why the fuel door didnt lock so i figured that maybe i was doing something wrong. So i see in the manual that its supposed to lock with the doors are locked. Low and behold, i discover that the little pin that comes out the left side of fuel door area may be broken since it doesnt extend far enough to catch onto the door when its closed.

Has anyone had experience with getting this changed or fixed at the dealer? I'm guessing that someone must have opened it and then tried to close it with the lock engaged and broke it off.

Mine broke off too, not sure how though. I havent looked into getting it fixed but if you find out anything let me know.

Save Your Fuel Door Lock

LOL Do I have a story about that fuel door lock...

Broke mine off myself, while pissed off because I had just gotten flashed at the stop light for taking the red light while trying to stay beside some very good looking girls in another FX. Granted we both got flashed, so got off at the gas station, had cash so I went inside to pay, came back out still furious about the $400 ticket that was probably on its way to my mailbox now, I didnt know that the FX had that feature that locks the fuel door when doors are locked, so I kept tugging at it until finally it broke off. I really needed gas bad! lol just alil funny story about that lock.

I hope everyone that reads this realizes that this feature exists so you dont rip it off like I did.

Hahaha! Same thing happened to me. First week I had the car I didnt know about the lock. I always had the car unlocked when getting gas. But one time I locked it when I was paying for gas. I thought it was stuck so I squeezed my fingers in and broke it. lol

If that white little plastic piece couldn't extend far enough to hold the door or it will not retreat from the lock position, then it is the actuator problem. Also in order to have this fixed up by dealer without paying, the following are several conditions:

1. You must have warranty on your FX
2. You DO NOT break it off, even the dealer told you so on the phone. If you are low on gas, make sure you call road-side assistance and have everything recorded down, so the dealer will pay for it.

That's was what happened to me. My car was very low on gas and the dealer told me to break it off for gas. Then after that I brought the car back to the dealership, they denied on instructing me doing so. It ended up $280 CDN out of my pocket.

Also if your actuator goes and you can't open the fuel filler door at all, there is a release pull inside. In the rear cargo area behind where the gas door is there is a little 3"x3"carpeted panel you can pry off. Behind there there is an emergency release.

SWEET! Always learning new things about the FX!

haha... found this thread after force opening the gas door and breaking the white pin... after the pin fell out, I finally realized what that white mechanism inside the door is.. lol
