Hey people! I'm new to the forum and to the FX community, I've been reading alot on this site lately about mods that can be done and I've been learning alot! (lots of crazy people down here )..
I'm putting together a modlist because im trading in my 00' e46 bimmer for an 05' or 06' fx35 in 2 weeks! (with tech, sports and dvd package) ( I got the Modbug before buying the freakin car :ehh: LOL)
I'm planning on installing headrest monitors, and I want the oem navi, dvd roof lcd and the 2 headrest monitors to show the same movie and got a bit of Questions:
1- I'll install a tv&nav2go (plug and play) unit, but it still needs a dvd input, so my first question is : which dvd player would i use? an aftermarket or the rooftop lcd dvd player? does the rooftop lcd dvd player have an output?
2- would the stock backup camera still work normally with tv&nav2go?
3-how can i plug the headrest monitors to the front oem monitor? (do-able?)

Thank you very much in advance for helping a total noob in car audio! :shy:

Welcome to iS! I believe the DVD player has an AUX input. I know it has the red, white, and yellow connectors on the front.

I actually run my iPhone through the DVD player through these connectors, and the headphone plug. Works really well for playing music.

if you can find an FX with an oem dvd player and monitor, you can do the navtv2go dealie and split the signal to the headrest monitors also. you'd probably need an amplifier to boost the video signal.

if no oem dvd, then whatever aftermarket player you went with should be able to power up all the monitors with the navdvd module just the same, but, im not 100% sure on that as i have the oem setup.

the module does not affect how the back up camera works. it is setup so that when the camera receives the 12v, it overrides anything on the screen. the company also sells a higher end unit that would allow the nav map to be displayed on all of the monitors.

EDIT: you would probably want to just wire the headrest monitors in front of the navdvd module too so that they could/would be active and you could still have the navigation screen up. if you did it the other way, then if you shut the front off, you'd lose the headrests in the meantime also.

Yeah Im looking for an FX with an oem dvd player and monitor + technology package ( or else id keep searching!).. thank you stu and chifx45 for those detailed answers! one question tho.. does the navtv2go unit has a line out? ( as far as i know it has 2 line ins)?
how can i "split the signal" ?? and what video amp do you recommend??
thanks again for helping me out =D

btw I'll keep you posted with the fx purchase :) cant wait to get it!!

i didn't need an amp so i really didnt research tbh.... you're basically going to need to splice into the blue video feed line from the dvd player to the rear monitor. once you tap into that source, it feeds thru the module into the front screen. if you're going to add headrest monitors, you would just tap into the same wire separately from the module. you may be able to get away without amplifying, but, i'm not sure. mine powers both screens perfectly.

oh nice lol, Ill try it without an amp first, if its good I'll pass on the amp! If i might ask, what kind of monitors have you installed? I think I'm gona end up getting the Alpine PKG-M780 package.. ( 2 7" WVGA TFT-LCD with 1.15 Million Pixels, 1 Hide Away Box and 2 Sets of Wireless Headphones with 3 A/V Inputs)
