just installed 5k HID's!

After comparing the stock HID's output w/ my bro's TL, i hated how yellow my lights looked so i bought some GE D2S 5k bulbs. Passenger side install literally took 3hrs because i couldnt figure how to snap in the locking metal clips...kept rechecking online threads until i saw a tip about using a mirror to see how the they work. Well after i figured it out, driver side install took only about 15 mins.

Now i gotta wait till dark to see how the lights compare to the TL :smile:
 
I got the 4300k ddm HID kit for the fogs & they look alot whiter than my 4300k stock headlights. So now I have been meaning to replace my stock headlights with DDM brand bulbs at the same temp 4300k.
Anyone else get lights that don't match even though they are same color temp?

My DDM fogs don't match, and they are the same color temp. :laugh:

ill get some pics up next week when my piaas come in, amazon had piaa festoon leds for $12 but right after i bought them the price shot up to $45:mad:

i couldn't find install pics either, but from personal experience you should definately get a mirror otherwise you'll have to feel around with your fingers a whole lot, if you've got really big hands it will be tougher to get in there.

doc from your statement i can tell you've changed your HIDs quite a few times :laugh:...i can prolly do the passenger side in 5mins now but the driver side is so cramped...i kept cringing everytime my knuckles got hooked on those ballast wires, they look so fragile.
 
Any comments on the bulb quality difference between bigger name makers like G.E. and DDM? Just bought the 6K fog kit and matching 6K D2S bulbs (as well as the KP tech fog switch module) want to do this one time and not be changing bulbs out later. How much were your GE's GJ? Still amazed how inexpensive the gear and the bulbs were.....

Damn, so I assume they HAVE to be better a bulb than the Apexecone bulbs DDM tosses in as part of the HID kit. Out of curiosity where you buy your bulbs? I know you said that pics will follow but what was your quick take when you lit them up last night? Do you like the color?

at 1st i was afraid 5k bulbs wouldn't be much diff than stock bulbs, but after comparing w/ only 1 bulb installed it does make a huge diff from stock, no more fugly yellow headlights. the FX stock HIDs made the TL's HID look blue, but now these GE 5k bulbs make the TL appear slightly yellow...weird. i got my bulbs from amazon btw.
 
I ordered up the 6's and I am debating switching over to 5's before I spend the time installing the kit and the bulbs. The 5's sound like a solid mix of color and output. Searching for an online dealer that sells the same brand (G.E. would be great) in both a D2S AND an H8. I can find one or the other but not both from one maker, WTF? Is it me or are automotive bulb resellers kind of disorganized.....?

this last pic is with piaa led fogs - they are friggin dim but i like that it only draws a few watts versus the halogen/hid 35W X 2.

i like it, those look like they would match my 6000k fogs more than what i have now. i still need to try and fix mine though, the cut off is all weird when i replaced them, but im too lazy.
