LI is kind of far from me, maybe I will ask my dealer what they think, probably charge a lot though. I could always powdercoat them for cheaper then that and I orginally wanted to do that but I think I like the silver more then black. Any ideas on what a dealer would say?

Yeah, I found something similar happening to an rx-8. The previous owner painted the damaged rims, and as you know, repainted "anything" does not last as long as factory paint. So, you're probably seeing part of the original coat + damage when you used the wire brush - hence looking like it's coming off but getting worse at the same time. The cheapest alternative would be to do it yourself. You just need to buy 600, 1200, 2000 grit wet-sand paper, and sand the wheel down til you get a smooth surface, then spray paint it using wheel spray paint (most automotive places sell for like $6 a can which may do all four wheels). Make SURE you cover the other areas well to protect from overspray though. I did this on the rx-8 and it came out pretty good. I'll put up some pics later when I take them. It would be the cheapest...
 
Id really like to see some pictures of the above referenced post, and how you fixed the situation. My FX has the same color of marks on my wheels, but it looks like brake dust and runs from the inner base (or inside) of the wheel down towards the center of the wheel on the spokes. It's only bad on 2 of the wheels. It looks like whomever owned the vehicle before me, let brake dust build up forever, etc. etc. and tried to clean it with a harsh agent. i'll try and get some pictures up to show what i'm talking about.

thanks for the info, some pics would be great, would i be able to get the same color as they are now or do you think it would be slightly different?
