Motorcycle Riders

I think I did something like that 3 years ago. I remember getting some sport bike magazine. That might explain those emails I get now.

Yeah, I gave them your email address and they send the mag to me.
Haha. J/k!!

Mail filters have gotten so much better over tbe years. I usually get a couple hundred junk emails per day. I would never suggest doing it on purpose, but if you misspell your email address they may never know. There was no verification email to respond to.

Yeah, I get alot of spam emails. Recently I've been getting one from this guy named Matt. He sends me random Infiniti files. Idk...

I'm constantly upgrading my street bike, looking forward to tracking this thing come spring. Hopefully my track fairing will be done long before then.

Here are two of mine:

K5 GSX-R 750
This is my street bike. So far, the mods I have put on:
* Level1Racing slip-on (with full header wrap)
* K&N filter
* GPR v1 stabilizer
* -1/+2 gearing
* Pazzos shorty levers
* Yoshimura frame sliders
* 8K HIDs
The winter is approaching, so I got few mods in mind:
* new subframe 10" over (don't care riding twisties on this bike - SEE BELOW)
* new (Vortex, most likely) sprockets and new chain (to accomodate above)
* powder-coat rims gold (to match levers, and rear-sets later)
* rear-view camera + 4.3" monitor (cause those rear-view mirrors are useless)
* need new windscreen, old one was cracked by the rock

"BEASTLY" 2007 ZX-10R
Just got this bike recently, this is my dedicated track bike. So far only couple mods:
* Dual carbon Akrapovic slip-ons
* Ohlins stabilizer
* (not on bike yet) PCIII, Vortex -1/+2 sprockets, 520 EKZ green chain)
Winter project:
* install those parts
* Shark Skinz race tail section - need to be painted
* Don't care for the look of Shark Skinz front race fairing, so most likely will fabricate some kind of plates to replace headlights and turnlights
* Rearsets
* Tune

I'm in NYC and i want to find a nice place to buy a sport bike for a decent price. Not really picky on a year and color.

Search Ebay and Craigslist for bikes being sold local. Then go see them in person. Nowadays it doesn't really pay to buy a bike brand new especially when there are so many people who buy a bike off of impulse then realize they don't want it or can't afford it while it still has low mileage. The two GSXR's I posted I bought used with less than 1500 miles on them.

IMO I would only buy a brand new bike if I was going to buy something more expensive than a Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki. If you are looking in these four groups look for a deal on a used one with low miles.

By the way Porkandbeans if you are considering getting a BMW S1000RR you might as well go all out and get the HP version lol.

In such a popular area, you should be able to find anything and everything. You might be picky on year when u see the yearly changes or motor upgrades. Like from side exhaust to undertail. Some 08+ fairings look better then then older. I want me a 05-06 636. But i love my sv650 and only have space for one bike. Easily buy used bikes, only bike I have my eye on is a street triple R if I was to buy new and that's mainly because used ones are rare.

I sure missed riding... if weather holds out nicer, I might have to barrow my friend's 07 cbr RR and do a weekend AM run.

This! I bought my last few bikes this way and found great bikes with low mileage. Just be patient and don't jump at the first one you see. There are plenty in the NYC area.

Great advice I searched for a couple of months before I found bikes that didn't have any signs they had been down before. Good bikes are def out there you just have to have the will power not to impulse buy.

Now that's what I'm talking about. This site continues to surprise me, I had no idea that there were so many motorcycle enthusiasts here, especially sport bike enthusiasts. I would be def down for a ride to Bear Mountain or better yet a ride to Philly to go to Pat or Gino's for cheese steaks. I would even be willing to volunteer to organize this type of ride. My club and I do Bear Mountain often in the summer and Philly at least three times. The Philly run will be just for the cheese steaks. We ride, sit and eat, take some pics and hang for a few then ride back. Another option is the Crocker Barrel in Newburgh, NY another good ride, great food.

Craigslist and Ebay are cool but since it is my first bike i want the peace of mind that the bike is in sound condition and not a lemon. But anyway i have friends that have bikes and they will definitely come with me when i see something i want so they can help me out with the decision

Honestly if u go with a popular bike like CBR, zx6r, 650r, sv650. U shouldn't com across a lemon often. I left out gsxr out because some have electronic issues and I don't know what year. What ever u get find one without a paint job on it. Spray paint or repaint can sometimes mean it was dropped.

I say get used because in most cases its just a matter of time before one drops their bike. I wanna say 85%+ of my buddies have done it.

If you have friends that will go with you, you should be ok then. Don't buy new, especially for your first bike, you will be kicking yourself later. I paid a decent penny for the Gsxr's $5000 for the 05 with 1500mi and $7500 for the 08 with $1200mi. I haven't had any major problems yet. It's kind of hard to buy a lemon bike as it's not as easy to cover up damage from the bike being dropped, like TurtLeG stated stay away from painted bikes, custom or repainted fairings in general are usually covering damage. Look for scratches and scrapes on the foot pegs and take a look under the seat in the battery compartment. If the bike is in crappy condition its usually fairly noticeable if you know what your looking for.

As far as dropping the bike yourself, don't be overly concerned with that . We are all different and while the saying goes "There are two types of riders, those who been down and those who are eventually going down." The way you choose to ride will play a big part in that. I rode for two years on a 600 keeping up with 1000's before I fell, and I didn't fall riding crazy, speeding or trying to keep up. I fell trying to learn how to wheelie, which could have been avoided by NOT trying to learn how to wheelie lol.

One piece of advice which some may not agree with is don't get a small bike with the premise that you should learn how to ride before you get a bigger bike. When I bought my first bike some said "get a 600 and learn the bike first", and some said "you're a big dude you can get a 1000 and take your time learning how to get comfortable." I went with the 600 trying to be cautious and after two short months I regretted getting such a small bike, not because it was slow or anything, just because I found myself doing twice the work to keep up with most of the people I rode with who were riding bigger bikes. If you think Suzuki's are nice bikes, I suggest looking for a 750. It's a nice starter bike that you won't easily get bored with. Just my opinion.
