Lenses on the back bumper

Are the back bumper lenses available in clear? My O6' FX is platinum so dark doesn't work for me, if possible I would like to purchase clear lenses. Any ideas who has them?

Those are reflectors, if you're talking about what I think you are. Only option is to black them out, just make sure they still reflect at night. Don't know if anyone has replaced them because I believe they aren't made to be taken off and put back on, and may be hard to work with.

I've never seen them in clear. Even if it existed, some part of it would have to reflect red to be legal, no?

I wonder how that would look though..

Probably pretty blinding? The red's a killer, just doesn't look right. On the darker body colors Eg. DG the black looks great, concerned it will not look so good on the lighter silver. Guess I'll have to try a quick overlay and see how it looks before I coat them. What is the preferred treatment for blacking them out if I might ask?

Clear/white would still reflect. At first I thought they wouldn't, but then i remembered bicycles that have them on the wheel.

The red may be killer and may not look right, but I am pretty sure it has to reflect red to be legal.

As for the preferred treatment, do a search on "smoke". and maybe this thread will help..

VHT makes a "Smoked Clear" & a "NightShade"
You can mask it off and spray them since it's aerosol.
I think the smoked clear is actually some sort of spray on window tint that blocks UV.
the more coats you spray on the darker it would get.

I've checked out the images for Bats and I'd like to give it shot. Here's an all new question how do you purchase the overlays? I have seen the photo bucket images, checked out the website. I just emailed Bat, is that how you start the order process?

My FX is Black Obsidian and I had my bumpers re-painted. In doing so, I asked the bodyshop to just paint over the reflectors. It looks awesome. I will be posting many pics of my mods after my springs go in today, stay tuned.

Who really is going to know, when following you, that those strips should reflect light. I dont think any police will ever think, "hey, those should be reflectors, I will pull this guy over." Chances are slim of that ever happening. So, my advice, do whatever you want to them.

I've tried to match it to the smoked tails before. First I laid down a silver overlay then on top of that a light tint overlay... It didn't look right. What you can try is to buy some plastic sheets for light fixtures at a hardware store, cut it to shape, spray some tint spray to match the tails. I agree a smoke overlay may not look so good on a lighter FX. If you can match it to the tails, it will look nice.

I did the same thing my reflectors are completly blacked out:tup:

you can always buy some light tint and apply it. I have a friend who does tints and he first put one layer on which definitely toned down that bright red a lot. I decided to put another layer on however because I wanted it a little darker.

Also, arent the 350Z bumper reflectors clear, or are those actual lights?

reflectors

Personal opinion-Stellanti's idea of painting them seems like a good option. Making them stand out with an opposing color seems like heading the wrong direction, why would you want to draw attention to a feature that really doesn't do much of anything other than to break up a flat surface? The tailights are a different story, I'll be colorizing them one way or the other. Looking at Rookies car the bumpers look that much better just being smooth and uninterrupted-not that I can afford to roll out the fat cash to change the bumper out. I have some sheets of static cling, I'll paint up some examples and try them this weekend. And yeah Jumbo, having a red car does kind of clear up the issue.......

guys, I hate to put a damper on things, but cars have reflectors in the rear for a reason, & yes, dot regulations do state that all cars must have rear facing red reflectors. I'm not crazy about how they look either on my black fx, but I wouldn't want to totally loose the rear reflectors either... would suck to wind up having my fx rear ended for the sake of a mod...

if you ever get stuck or even parked on the side of a dark road the difference in visability to on comming traffic is huge... with reflectors your car is visable from 1000'+, without them they may not see you till it's too late to react, you may not realize that ALL cars have them because some cars have reflectors built into the tailights...

when I build my custom tailights I'll build reflectors into them more than likely, then can eliminate the bumper ones safely... you do what you want, not looking to slam anyone but posting this just for those that weren'rt aware of the fact that all cars do need, or should have rear reflectors...

That's it, I am painting my car red! Good information on the reflector safety issue, maybe just toning them down would be acceptable visually and still supply some kind of night time visibility.
