Question on lenses

Hey guys I was wondering, for cars that have HID' (But no projectors) such as my mom's QX56.. and A car that had aftermarket HID' installed, like many of us seee, is there a difference in the type of headlight lens used? I'm pretty sure there is, because my moms truck doesn't at all look like how another vehicle with aftermarket hid's looks... Her's is more balanced... etc... I'm just making sure..

Thanks!

a headlight that is designed for an hid bulb will be designed to disperse the light correctly & give you a very usable & correct beam, most times when a headlight that is NOT designed for an hid, but an hid is stuck in there anyway, it will just not work the same.

there are 3 general types of hid bulbs, ones that are designed for reflector housings, ones that are designed for projectors, & the third type, brought on by the aftermarket, is a hybrid type that is claimed to be able to perform well in either. this third type does not perform very well in either type of application really & should be avoided.

d2r=reflector housing
d2s=projector housing
d2c=aftermarket compramise

if at least a d2r type bulb is used in a reflector housing it can be not too bad, but will never be as good as if the headlight reflector & lense was actually designed for the hid in the first place, & when the wrong type bulb is used it can be pretty bad....

Thanks turbo, I was just curious because like I said my moms truck has no proj's, but has HID's.. but it looks well balanced and neat... even though scattered.

Turbo, I came across an x5 today, and I saw that BMW has d1s as their headlights. Any input on this?
And also, if i were to put an hid bulb, (a d2s) into say a camry, with projectors but no HID's, would it work fine??

I've seen some bmw's & lexus use different bulbs, think i seen a lexus that has d4s too, don't know a lot about them, maybe they use different bulbs so you have no choice but the dealer for replacement, I paid over $200 for just a bulb on a lexus once...

hard to say how well a d2s will be in a projector headlight from a camry, may work out ok, depends on the focal distance & shielding really but has a pretty good chance of being acceptable I think....
