My engine fan just started running really hard/noisy. If I put my hand in front of the grill, you can feel it pulling air into the engine bay. This is after a short drive at 9pm and about 68 degrees outside. There should be no reason the fan should be running this hard. Also, I went back outside and just started it up, you can hear the fan already running hard....

What should I look for / check?? The temp gauge seems to be showing normal temp....well maybe the width of the needle higher....but nothing too out of the ordinary, I think?..but what would make my fan run so hard??

Ok went to the "other" site....to check on a few things.

Car is now cold, so went outside and checked the fans. They spin freely in both directions, indicating the clutch is not seized. Also, I started the car again and the fans are not turning at all upon start-up. (a good sign)

Maybe some type of temp sensor in the engine, or engine bay, is reading the engine temp wrong and kicking the fans on full blast when they should be at low or medium settings??

If it is.... You need to get it fixed asap..

Don't want to have it go out on you and have your engine be flooded with water when your engine oil coolant runs out...

Well the wifey took the Fx with the mother in law and the baby out to lunch. About a block away from the house, the FX overheated. We took it to a local mechanic and I told him I wanted the thermostat checked....it ended up being seized shut.

The thermostat on our cars is $60...so with a radiator flush, damage came out to be $110. Not too bad. The closest Nissan Dealer wanted $270!...ouch. Infiniti Dealer was just too far from my house so didn't even bother to call.

Thanks guys....my FX is running smooth again.

Glad you got it figured out bro... and lucky the fam wasnt that far from home.
$60 for an OEM part or third party?

Old topic but i have almost the same story line. ....

I started the car and after a sort time of driving/ ideling both fans are running @ high speed.
Is it correct that in a normal situation only 1 fan has to cool the engine?

The car is not overheating, the tempr. Needle Moving from time to time from less than half to Just more than half.
Normaly the tempr. Needle remains at less half.
I you are at the front of the car, the left radiator hose is Hot, the right one from the termostat is Cold, Just the small hose that is coming from the termostat is Hot.

So i guess its the termostat that is fault.

First monday i Will change it.
Does the gasket of the housing Will Come along or i have to buy it separate?

Gr.

Finally, I replaced the termostat and the tempr. Needle is Now as normal under the Middle of the gauge.

The fans are running one at a time or both werk slowly.

Me problems are over.

Greetings.
