the fx uses a stock outer diameter of the wheel assy as 30.5"...
my general rule of thumb for a car to not look like it's sitting too high is the gap between the tire & the fender should never be more than the side wall height... if the gap is = to or less than the sidewall height then it looks good...
a 22" wheel with the equivelent diameter is going to wind up with a tire sidewall height of like 3.4" or so, so that's like 3.4" from the edge of the rim to the ground... reason is the lip of the rim is actually around ~3/4"-1" on average, so a 22" rim will measure closer to 24" edge to edge...
this is about the most that is normally considered still looking functional & usable... & if the fx is lowered the gap won't be much larger than this 3.4", all's fine & all looks fine...
now you go & step this up to a 24" rim & your taking away another inch from the sidewall... now your down to the rim edge being less than 2.4" off the ground... the overall look is just not enough tire... the wheel gap will now be larger than the sidewall height... this gives the apperance that the car needs to be dropped some more, looks too high... if you really slam an fx over the 24's it probably wouldn't look so bad, but will it still look functional & correct?, that's opinion... I think 24's look to big unless your bagging it personally...
now you go & step this up to 26"... your left with less than 1 1/2" between the rim & the ground...~1.3-1.4" sidewall. that's like a rubberband around the rim... so now the overall apperance is a giant rim with no tire... at that point it really better be slammed with no gap above the wheel at all for it to not look like a donk...
also, keep in mind that these measurments are not taking into account the slight flattening at the bottom of the tire from the weight of the vehicle, so the actual distance between the edge of the rim & the ground will be slightly less than these sidewalls listed...
only fx I've ever seen that 26's are going to look good on is rookies... to do 26's & not have it look like a donk it better be slammed & laying rocker on the ground... 26's on an fx with just standard lowering springs will look rediculous to most people... the idea is to create a look that most will look at it & say wow, that looks sick... to me the sickest your going to pull off with a normal fx is slamming it on 24's... or just lowering it on 22's...
now of course, most of this, besides the actual measurements, are just my opinion, but I'm guessing that's the point of this thread is for those opinions... I think most peoples opinions of 26's on an fx is NOOOO!!!! but then were back to, it's your car, & in the end about all that matters really is if your happy with your car... but if your looking for something that is going to look sick & not just stupid to most people, I'd say no to 26's... if you really want it to look "right" with 26's then you need to make the body look like rookies, that looks sick on 26's, but then you want it to be drivable too?... average fx I'd say the most you can do & not look stupid to most people will be 24's & slammed... but it'll ride like crap...
this is why most will say 22's are as large as you should go... it's the largest wheel that will still look right without bagging it & still ride decent & be functional...
