TPMS install and programming

I have a winter/summer setup where I run my 18" rims in the winter and early spring (when potholes are still everywhere) and 21"s in the late spring through the fall. I have TPMS sensors on both sets of wheels. Costs me about $40 at the dealer to switch them (mount and re-program CPU) each year, which I usually do after Thanksgiving.

The initial mount of the TPMS sensors on the rims will be more expensive than that, but once installed I think the charge at the dealership is reasonable, quick and pain-free generally. Worth it for me. Of course this also assumes your rims/tires are in good shape and you don't need to replace any parts.

Note - if you are mounting your sensors and purchased OEM (or compatible) sensors separately you will also need the nut that holds the sensors on the rim, which may cost an additional few bucks from the dealer.

Lucky you, my dealer wanted $32 for each sensor to register them. As it turns out, they couldn't do it for some odd reason in my aftermarket wheels so they didn't charge me. Now I'm on the lookout for a shop that can do it.

^^ Paid $35 at the dealer..

Apparently not, the shop that installed my wheels/tires can't do Infiniti because they don't have the tool. As turbo mentioned a few posts back, the Infiniti requires the tool that plugs into the OBD II port and a lot of aftermarket shops don't have it yet likely due to cost.

man, just had a customers car today, 09 altima & after we finished it the car had a light on for tpms... had to get it fixed quickly for the customer & winded up at nissan, $105 + tax, $115... what crooks... I loved that he told me that was standard one hour labor charge with a straight face & then 15 minutes later the car was done :)

So, my 04 is nearing 100k miles. Still in EXCELLENT condition. The batteries in the sensors are supposedly good for 5 years +/- ? I'm thinking at my next tire change (10k) that I'll just replace all four (I have one that gives me an error/* reading every so often now).

My question is, can the new TPM's and tires be installed at a tire shop then later have the TMPs programed at infiniti or Nissan? Or do the folks that mount need to reprogram?

You can install them at your tire shop and have them programmed at dealership. I checked a ton of tireshops to program my TPMS and none would do it. Stealership only. Talked them down to $120 from $150. Still a rip off.

I've gotten quotes from $42 (nissan, but with no guarantee they can actually) to the familiar $100 from infiniti. Boo!

Hey im live in brooklyn. Having issues with my tpms. Keeps blinking. How much do you charge and can i swing by?

Good thing my local mechanic bought the 10k machine and software, he does mine for free or $30 or less.

My Infiniti Dealer does the recalibration for $45. I think it is a total rip off to pay this each spring and fall and for the added expense of 4 more sensors. I have been happy to only run sensors in my winter rims on all my Infinitis over the last 7 years.

Would it be best to go with the oem TPMS from Infiniti or the non oem from InfinitiPartsUSA that cost $45? I have one I need to replace. Thanks

If I only had one to replace one I would go with OEM. If I was replacing all 4 I would go with aftermarket. You should check for a set of used OEM ones, you could probably pick them up for a good price.
