Wheel offset + Tire choice help

I have several questions regarding wheel offsets and tire choices..

I've searched through the forums entirely and I have a general idea of what offset is, but now I'm more concerned with rubbing issues..

The wheels I purchased are Axis Ordens with specs: 22 X 10.5 with +20 offset, and 22X9 with +15 offset.. I'm assuming the latter is for the rears??

My ride is lowered with Eibachs, with fronts cut half a coil.. So with "aggressive offset" of the Ordens will rub..

must I roll/shave the fenders for the tires to not rub? or is there an alternative in terms of tire choices?

I could use some ideas on tire choices for my situation, and ideas on where I can go to shave the fenders..

Please advise? :frown: Thanks..

I would advise to get you fenders rolled or cut. I just had it done at a g35driver dent removal meet.
I think it would rub unless you stretched the tire, and you dont want to do that. Maybe hit up a body shop to see if they can roll you fenders. Dont worry about the trim, mine went back on fine, even with a few less screws.
IMO

There are a few members here with the same axis orden wheels so you may want to pm them with some specifics. With that being said, the 10.5 width wheel is for the rear and not vice versa. As to the rubbing it has a lot to do with what tire choice you choose. So you can get away with not shaving the wheel well if you choose a shorter width tire with little to no sidewall bulge. I would say 285's would be a good choice.

Alan, what is your Orden spces? You have 285's and you previously said you do not rub.

you can kinda see here my Axis are pretty flush with the rear. My offset is +15
22x9

I run on H&R, but you have cut Eibachs so you might.

btw what color is your FX?

Ah I missed that you are cut a half coil in the front. With that you most likely rub in the front and definitely rub in the rear even with 285's. You will really need to shave both front and rear.

:embarrassed::embarrassed:

I should start off by looking for a reliable body shop for the fender shave then..
Never expected cut springs to come back and slap me so..
Even with shave, for tires 285/35/22 is basically what I should keep in mind then?
appreciate the help guys

just hope there is no issues with trim re-application or any rubbing AFTER fender shaving..

You will still rub as I do with my 22x10/+35 with 305's all around. Even with your 285's the aggressive offset pushes it past the threshold, but with the shaved wheel wells at least the sheet metal under the fender trim piece will not eat your tires. All that the tires will be rubbing on is plastic so you will be ok.

what size tires are you running on your 22x9?

285 35 22

I would recommend having it rolled instead of cutting. I know other members like the cut method. But cutting will leave a sharp edge and also exposed metal. Rolling will not do those things and it will not weaken that area, but make sure they use the proper equipment (fender roller and heat gun ).

Also trimming the plastic trim piece (same area under wheel well) will also be necessary for full clearance.

I personally think shaving is the best method with our FX's over rolling. But you should shave off as much as practically possible and completely sand down the rough cut edges. This is also best done with air tools then power tools but both will work. Due to the sheetmetal we have on our FX's under the plastic fender trim piece even with rolling that sheet metal will still be there and will get exposed to the tires once compression load is placed on the FX again. And yes, it would be best to shave off some of the plastic trim piece from the top down to the first screws on both sides that hold the trim piece in place.

I just got the wheels mounted, and the guy is refusing to roll the fenders for me, saying there is enough clearance..
should I just try driving it around and see if it's ok?
Does rubbing occur during normal street driving?

seems like you have no choice.
If it rubs, it will happen fairly quickly (over speed bumps etc).
drive it !
