Tire info and help

To everyone
I have an o4 FX35 with 20's and 30k on these Toyo Proxies and they roar kike a train! Help!

They have what is called feathering due to being a "directional" tread and despite rotating front to back every oil change, they
have this wear pattern that creates road noise. And directional means you cant cross rotate side to side to remedy it.

I have read that you guys think the Yokohamas are doing good now, but I have been told that they too are directional, and over time, will also start feathering due to the size and the stiff suspension of this car. Am I correct?

Not sure if the Hankooks are "directional". Any feedback?

I just want a good quiet, smooth riding tire for the money, and I guess non-directional so that I can rotate all ways to alleviate any
more "feathering"

Feedback please

i have had directional tires on my last two cars and have had no issues with tire wear. as i understand it feathering comes from improper alignment. have you had your alignment checked at all recently?

also, double posting is a big no no. someone is gonna get you.

Feathering
[SIZE=-1]Feathering is a condition when the edge of each tread rib develops a slightly rounded edge on one side and a sharp edge on the other. By running your hand over the tire, you can usually feel the sharper edges before you'll be able to see them. The most common cause of feathering is incorrect toe-in setting, which can be cured by having It set correctly. Occasionally toe-in will be set correctly and this wear pattern still occurs. This is usually due to deteriorated bushings in the front suspension, causing the wheel alignment to shift as the car moves down the road.

Problem is that you have the first version proxes, these are crap. First set I had, had the same problem with feathering and noise, the second set was slightly better. I had continental cross contact uhp's next which are non directional and were really quiet. Currently I have version 2 proxes which are directional and are super quiet, version 2 proxes(STII), supposedly all previous problems were fixed....so far so good.

But yup, all directional tires can suffer from feathering since you cannot rotate them to the other side and help them wear more even.

I have Yoko Pradas and they are directional and no issues. Like Gchrist said have you checked the alignment?

the toyo proxies are crap, mine roared so much that I didn't even belive it was just the tires, & that's with maybe ~10k on them. I changed wheel bearings & even my transfer case trying to get rid of the noise not thinking it could be all from just the tires. finally I just got rid of them & got a set of the yoko parada's, awesome tire, great ride, quiet, no issues...

the original toyo proxies are crap....

i really love my yoko spec-x. i was riding into work today on stock bridgestone potnezas on my 18s and almost slide off the road coming off the same exit i take every day. and there was no sign of ice or moisture. it was just super cold. can't wait to get my yokos back on there.

i have nitto

420s. I love them. quiet and non directional. and cool tread design

Re: Tire info

Thanks for the feedback.
Sorry for double posting...first time jitters ya know.

Yes, I did do alignments, but the damage may have occurred between times and not knowing or expecting it to be a problem.

I will be looking and pricing these choices pretty soon and looking for good deals.

When I bought my 06 FX35 used, it had brand new directional Falken Ziex S/TZ01 tires (20 inch size). Even brand new, they have a noticable roar. I can't imagine what they are going to sound like when they get some wear on them.

I'm reading posts to find out the next quiet set of tires to get for it.

sorry to jack the thread but quick question, how are the yokos vs the bf goodrich gforce tires? i was looking into the gforces but they are pretty pricey

Ditto to that Gilley! I am looking and reading too. I guess a less aggressive non-directional tread to be sure.

+1 on the Hankook RH06's I'm running 265/40/22's and no issues--Love em!
