I notice that I have a 1/2 of tank of gas, when filling it up gas over flow out. when I got in car and drove off the tank did register full. what could be the with my fx. has anyone had this problem and with theirs and what would be the best thing to do.

yes i've had this issue. i got mine replaced. I think it was the part of it that measures it in the actual tank. I'm not sure though. you should def. get it checked out though :-D

My issue was the needle was showing the wrong amount of gas that was in the tank.
Took it to the dealer and they replaced both fuel senders for me and the issue hasnt happened since.

I did both of my senders less than a year ago & now after a little while I am still getting less than precise readings... the fuel gauge problems are common with the fx's... it's a dual float design that averages the 2 readings, I've given up on it being perfect & precise...

Hey, I am new but I'm familiar with gas gauge issues...it read empty when I just filled it w/premium!! I took to the dealer they're guessing that it is the gas senders; w/labor will cost $700:( However if that doesn't work the dealer said...they need to replace the gauge cluster...and that is over a 1k:(:(

mine reads 3/4 full after topping it off.... metro thought they fixed it but they didnt...
looks like i gotta take it back again
maybe i can get that g37 again...

if you push & have a decent service writer, they can put in for the more expensive float under extended drivetrain warentee, it does include the fuel pump which is covered under extended drivetrain & not just the base warentee... should cost you around ~$200 at that point instead of $700 just paying for the aux float...

When they fixed mine - they replaced both.

Hi everyone, so i have a 04 fx35 that doing the same thing you guy are talking about. I fill up the gas and the reading is always wrong ? for example the other day it said it was on E and i fill it up and it tap out at only $20 to a full tanks of gas with 93. So i took my car to a shop and they said it was the sender. Change the sender on the driverside only and still having the same problem? so now i am going in to change 2nd sender and hope that works....did anyone here had to change the gauge cluster as well ? cause i see that most people only had to change both the sender.
thanks johnny

anyone ???

3 main causes of the bad fuel reading in the nissan/infiniti's: float #1, float #2, or 3rd is the gauge itself, which is part of the whole cluster. no easy way to identify the cause, although technically there should be a way to test, it's just way more complicated than just guessing & doing it by process of elimination, which is what infiniti themselves even do...

the reason it's so complicated is because technically our system acts almost like a dual tank system but with only one gage, our tank looks like a pair of saddle bags & each side is only connected to the other at the very top of the tank. the fuel pump is in the right tank & the fuel pump assy contains a vortex that constantly sucks fuel from the left tank, so when you have 3/4 of a tank you really have a 1/2 tank on the right & another 1/4 on the left, when your under 1/2 tank then most of the fuel is really only in the right side of the tank. they have a float in each side & then one of the computers on the can buss averages out the 2 readings to come up with one master level reading for the gauge

I notice when my gas levels read wrong, if I turn the key on an off without starting the car eventually it will read properly. So if I know I have a 1/4 tank left and sometimes when I start the car it will be on empty...I then turn the key on and off until the level reads right and then I start the car.

I have a slightly different issue with my fuel indicator. When I start the car I noticed the needle would jump a little. And so eveytime I fill up with gas, and start it, the needle would jump and go pass the "full" range indicator and get stuck! I would have to hit the top of the steering wheel console to get the needle unstuck!

Has this happened to any one else?
Is there a quick fix for it?
thanks!
