I have a 2003 FX45. About 6 months ago I noticed the passengers side doors locking/unlocking was getting weaker and weaker until sometimes it just didn't do anything at all I had to manual unlock the door from the inside. Then while I'm in vancouver in december the passenger side lock starts to work , but now the drivers side lock is the one acting up. Then when I get back home to cali, the problem is back to the passengers side lock. I was thinking it was the actuator, but how do you explain the bouncing back and forth between the driver and passengers side? Anyone got any clues? And oh yeah, now its starting to happen to my trunk latch. Thanks!

Very common problem, except for the back and forth thing. All I could say is tempature change had something to do with it. Unfortunately the only thing that going to help is replacing the doors that are bad and the trunk. It could be something you might want to do yourself, or the dealership can dig in your pockets to replace them.
I recommond if you do want to replace them, see about getting it done yourself. If not then a local shop. About $100.00 for each accuator.
It's not too hard to do, but you do have to remove the glass to change them out. so your looking at about 2-4 hours for the doors and the trunk from my understanding should be easy.

I don't think u need to replace the door. Just replace the actuator for the locking assembly.
it sucks, but i think i'll survive with it the way it is for now. with our economy, there are a lot better things i could think of spending $1,000+ on (hawaii anyone?) lol.
does anyone know how or have instructions or a manual on replacing the acuators?

Here is what I got from the .ORG
remove the three bolts holding the door finisher - one under the inside door lever and two under the silver door handle part.
work from the bottom and pull the door panel forward by hand - yes, by hand
remove all of the items attached to the door finisher which is the door handle lever, the automatic lock/windows controls and two wires. put the door finsiher away.
Remove the speaker (disconnect the speaker wire) and the large sticker - make sure you don't damage it. You'll need to put it back the same way.
Lower the window until you see the bolts through the two holes.
Remove the window bolts and then remove the window by lifting on th rear
Put the window in a safe place so you don't break it
remove all the bolts holding the window power assembly panel and gently put it on the ground - disconnect most of the cables by using a pair of pliers and pushing the clip through the hole
for the front drivers side, remove the rod attached to the lock by rotating the blue clip on the door lock assembly
remove the rubber stop on the door side and unbolt the door lock
while pulling the outside handle forward - carefully jiggle the door lock until you remove it
pull the outside handle up and pull backwards to lodge it (disconnect the intellikey wires if you have it)
unbolt the yellow bolt holding the baseplate in place
remove the three bolts holding the old door lock assembly in place (the repair manual says to replace the bolts - they have blue loctite on them...so don't strip them)
disconnect the three wires from the old door lock assembly and connect to the new
disconnect the power from the old door lock assembly and connect to the new
re-assemble in reverse order.
After you put the window in, reset the window before you put the door panel back on.
that's about it.

holy! that sounds pretty complicated. have you tried it yourself yet? i'm pretty much a visual person, so if anyone has pictures of replacing the actuators that would be awesome!
