Manual Trans Swap

thread revival...

what if you were to lose AWD and just convert to RWD only? I'm really getting more and more curious about the swap.. i found some great info on the z and g forums but what other parts would be necessary to do it on our fx?? again if you were to ditch AWD and stay RWD

SO I am wondering if there is a way to retain the AWD and do the 6 speed also? I am assuming Rookie has RWD only? Is this correct? I would love to kind of copycat his build. I already have 90% of the parts as I had a turbo kit on a Acura Legend so I could easily fab a T4 to work on the 3.5. Altitude hurts at 6400 ft. The 6 speed would help, and I have one from an old Z I have-had. Rookie, did you pay for the entire swap or just help? Would love more info unless it is or was just that straight forward. Also curious about the inch gap it sounds like there was. Was or is this an issue? As with my Legend....I doubt the auto is going to last if I boost it. I love to get in to the boost....ALL THE TIME!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Rookie's car was indeed RWD, and there is another ongoing build with a 6MT but that vehicle is RWD as well.

The RWD swap seems intensive all on its own, but to try and maintain AWD and also get everything else working is bordering on insanity.

You should totally do it...! lol

Did someone say insanity??? Here you go! Twin turbo HR motor with an R34 trans! Last I heard he got super swamped with work and hasn't finished it yet but still insane nonetheless!!

Are there any Nissan/Infiniti vehicles with AWD and a manual? I was thinking about the Juke and how you can't get both and they I realized maybe it's because they don't have it on anything else.

The older GT-Rs were awd and manual? I believe the R32, R33 and R34. But the R35s, I don't think any are manual?? Only paddle shifters....

I kinda have the idea Rookie himself is " Out of Order " on this Forum i believe. Haven't seen him active for a while unfortunatly. I'm working on a swap as well at this moment but also have a RWD. Check out my thread as i tried to do a little more specific review on the whole swap : https://www.infinitiscene.com/search/1/?q=12725-Ray-s-Boost

As for the AWD you need to figure out what tranny will fit our VQ engine. There are a lot of guys who build our engines in other cars. Maybe they have done this but i also believe the Skyline tranny's would probably be the best option as Turbocad was also looking into that as well.

What i don't know is where the front AWD diff is located.....on the trnny or on the lower pan of the engine cause adapting that to the trnsmission would also be an point of interest.....don't want to say hassle.

You would be better off converting to RWD i believe.

I think the problem for the AWD is that the transfer case is bolted to the back of the transmission. So the RWD transmission wouldn't bolt up. Turbo was planning on cutting the housings apart and welding them back together. I would say that level of fabrication is beyond what most people here can do, or what most shops can do.

Reviving the thread, anybody got any more info on this?

What do you want to know....? Couple of poststukken back i added a link of my ray's boost thread. There is some additional info on the swap. But nobody did a full White on it if that is what you mean. It is possible. To swap on a RWD car
