They just weren't bolted down all the way....not the GW kits fault, just the person who installed them.

Will had the same problem when he didn't even have a grounding kit installed. So :tongue:

Whitehair...glad everything was found and fixed.....going to check my gwires tomorrow, but after driving another 120miles today after picking up the car.....I have no problems.

When I was installing the wires, I was afraid to break the bolts. :tongue: Let's just pray that the CEL will never come back again (Keeping my finger crossed :tongue:) If you still have the CEL lights on, ask the mechanics to replace the 4 major grounding terminal around or on the engine and clear the codes. Then there is a high chance the lights will never come back.

New Update:

Today, I was trying to change the battery with a new one. After disconnecting the battery and found out that my new battery will not fit due to the different size and distances between the terminal to the edge of the battery, so I decided to reconnect my old battery. (The total process is about 30 mins).

Started my car, VDC, SLIP, CEL were all on again. Even worse, all other warning lights came out. My headlight was flashing, all meters were crazy, warning lights were blinking (look like unstable voltages or currents), all buttons on the center console don't work (Engine is still running, but radiator fan starts to rev up and down repeatively). And had problem restarting my car.

Turned off my car and removed all grounding wires. Guess what?? Same shit. Everything was just crazy. My console is just like disco lights. After turned off the car for a while, now only the VDC, SLIP and CEL are on.

I believe it had something to do disconnecting my batteries for a while. The battery and alternator were tested by the dealership on Friday and found no problems.

Now I had my car towed to the dealership :tears: and waiting to see what happened. I highly doubted that the grounding wires were causing this problems.

Could it be the main ground 6" from the battery? maybe when you changed the batteries..this one bolt somehow got loose?

Wow man....never heard of such problems....good luck, thought we had this all figured out!

This really does sound like a faulty ground issue. That's usually what causes "funky" electrical problems. This is a very general statement that holds true across a wide variety of electrical components...

Called the dealership and talked to the mechanics directly. The dealership was shorted staffed today, so they only did a quick look of my car.

The mechanic doesn't think it is a faulty ground problems, but can not confirm 100% due to short-staffing today.

What they and I figured was, if the battery is disconnected for like around 10 to 15 mins and then reconnected. My headlight and dashboard will looks like disco lights when my car was turned on and left for a min:tears:. Then all center console will lose control. Grounding wires have been completed removed and still the same problems.

He also found that there are water accumulation under the glove box area (the dash below the glove box - and he said it's common problems for infiniti cars :tdown:). However, the ECU area is dry. He is suspecting a leak somewhere which cause some computer module to fail (the mechanics said some IDP or IDT module - didn't hear clearly from him, however my other mechanics friend refers that to CANBUS).

The car is left at the dealership for a more thorough check up till the source of the problem can be defined. That module alone will cause $791.91 CAD without tax and labour.

Will keep everyone updated when I have more information. Hope everyone is in better luck than I am. (This is an accident free vehicle).
 
this make me want to go and check that compartment... and also makes me rethink twice about the grounding kit!!!

Thanks. I really hope it can be resolved in a economical way.


Just talked to the mechanics, the leak was caused by the the hole on the wiring harness to the the ECU compartment (which was caused by installing the grounding wire). To replace the harness from future leaking, it will cost about $3000 to $4000 in labor or more. That's excluding the cost of parts.

They are drying the ECU connectors and retested it tomorrow. I think I will just ask them to seal the harness with some silicon.

WARNING, if you are going to install grounding wire requiring to go through your harness and the weather is wet and rainy very often. Please make sure you SEAL your harness or just don't install. It is NOT the problem with the grounding wires. Just make sure you sealed your harness!!

This is such a drag. I hope they warranty you for everything. I recall, that when I installed my wires, I kept the holes real small & had to pull through the snug fit. It is something to be careful with.
 
Guys, when you installed these grounding wire kits and had to go thru the oem wiring harness to get to the ecu compartment did you not seal the extra hole that was made by the grounding wire?!?!?!?!? If that hole is not sealed properly eventually a leak will happen. If any of you guys with a grounding wire kit has not done so already go and get something to seal up that hole! I used a lot of electrical tape with my install and over 3 years later I have not had any issues.
