Removing roof rail and side grill for 09 fx35

theres a really huge, wide gap between perfect & crappy. nothings perfect, but at least if you shoot for perfect you might wind up with really decent. if your just shooting for decent then your gonna get crap...

remove them & paint them, vehicle deserves nothing less, if your not going to do it right then don't even do it, my 2 cents:smile:

of course I know thats the best way to go about it. I just took it to a local body shop and they were scatching their head when i ask them how to take it off. They havn't even seen a new fx35 let alone work on it. Then they give me a some bullshit, that I should leave the car there for a day and let them have a look at it, charge me for the time AND THAN quote me a price for the actually removal and paint.

gonna involve jacking it up & removing a few clips/screws to drop the fender liner & get a look behind.... more than likely there just clipped in, but you gotta look at them from behind to figure the mounting out & not break anything... you can drop the liner yourself & look at it...

Didn't call and get a 2nd opinion, but I'v got bad news for you 2nd Gen FXer's out there who want to remove the roof rails.. Got a quote from Miller Infiniti that said it would be $2000 to pull them off.. Yeah, you heard me right! You have to pull the roof liner off, then unbolt it, then fill the holes..

I hate my rails, been dying to get them off... If anybody finds out anything different, please let me know...

Your future plans include "suede headliner" so maybe you can remove the rails when you get your headliner covered, its gotta come out for that

I'm planning on going into my local shop to see what they will quote me for painting my rails charcoal, and I prefer them removed prior to painting.

I'll let you know the non-dealer estimate, and if all goes according to plan, I'll also try to snap some pics of the 2nd gen in station wagon mode

I only half kid though, because I think the 09+ body style pulls the look off pretty good. Here's a comp I did earlier this year for your reference:

I'm a bit confused.. I just got quoted $60 to get the rails pulled off by Thousand Oaks Infiniti.. That can't be right.. On a side not, won't there be holes in the roof that I will need to get filled it?!

$2,000 seems crazy, but $60 might be even crazier. Unless I'm missing something here, you definitely have to remove the headliner and access from the inside so that right there should be costly in labor.

I'm sure someone else can chime in, but that's just one reason to find a trustworthy shop to work with imo. Did the other dealership mention how/what they were doing to fill in the holes??

As soon as I get my rims in next week, I'm going to go down to the body shop and find out what can be done.. I want to wait for my wheels because I might get the roof painted black to match the wheels..
