How do you rate the FX as a family friendly option, taking into account rear seat space for the child seat/s, legroom, cargo space, and safety? Obviously it's not a QX56 but as a compromise between a family SUV and a larger car that handles like a sport sedan and is still fun to drive, what are your thoughts?

i am in that family you mentioned. but i am the 1 child. anyways, the other two vehicles we have are an rx330 and m35, so its not like we have any other people movers. we also have a tahoe for really large jobs, but that mostly just sits around. last night i drove our family, and my grandparents in the FX to dinner, and all seemed well. managed to fill up all 5 seats. just as an fyi, we used the tahoe for our long distance drives to colorado, west texas, and louisiana. i would sit in the 3rd row and play video games or watch movies on a little tv we had that i put on the floor. we could fit all our luggage, christmas gifts, and our black lab into the tahoe with little room to spare. for short trips, i would imagine the FX would be ok though. might look into roof carriers, i know we did a couple times with the tahoe.

1 kid here, around town a great family car... long distance traveling with lots of luggage etc then it can get a little tight, but like you said, it's a compramise... if you have the luxury of having a dedicated vehicle for every situation then you can have a monster SUV laying around for the odd occasion you may need it, but if your looking for one all around vehicle that will do duty as a daily commuter to work & then suit a family on the weekends I think the fx fits the bill nicely... up to 4 people comfortable... 5 is doable but can get a bit cramped... if I had to move 5 people often then maybe I'd say it's small, but 3-4 it's great & I never have more than 4 myself...

not married and no kids but i do have a lovely girlfriend and 2 younger brothers...and it gets us around great. I think in the future with the addition of 1 child it will still be great. anymore than 4 people you might want to look at the QX56.

the perfect blend for families of five or less who are looking for an alternative for a sports car.

I have a 7 year old and there us plenty of room for him in the back. We used to have a large car seat when he was younger but now it is just a booster. My son loves the FX exhaust rumble but when we drive on long trips we usually take our GX470 as it is more comfortable to drive. Handling pales in comparison to the FX (not even in the same class or league)but the GX was never meant for any spirited driving like the FX was born to do. Cargo space and leg room in the back is adequate for 3 or 4 and safety for the FX is top notch on the the rated crash tests.

two kids here. I've only had both car seats in maybe once or twice. Usually only one car seat in to take one of them to school or a class. I've also had 3 adults sit in the back while one some one was sitting in front. The cargo is good for a short trip and will fit a stroller and a diaper bag with 2 10" subs.

Wow, you have 2 subs and can fit 2 strollers? The trunk is kinda small enough without subs, does ur cargo reach the roof?

With a wife and a one year old, I find the FX at the limits of cargo capacity. We keep the stroller folded in the back and car seat takes up a third of the rear seat area. We get by but if there was a second kid, I would have to seriously consider a larger vehicle.

That said, maybe after we're done with the car seat it'll open up some room.

I think it's a good choice...if you wanted a G35 or G37 this is probably a good compromise because you get the exhaust note, engine performance and quality..and G coupes will surely not survive on NYC freeways.
