Melted cooling lines?

Had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube a couple weeks ago.
Yes, I know, Jiffy Lube. I won't do that again.

A day or so after the oil change and fuel injector cleaning, I heard a strange whine from the turbos. Back to jiffy Lube I went.
The assistant manager told me he did not hear anything unusual and I should just continue driving. According to him the sound would just go away. WTF?!?

I took my FX to Uprev ere in Austin. One turbo was cooked and the other was heading south. Apparently no heat shield had been used on my coolant lines. They had melted shut. Bummer.

While Jiffy Lube might not have had final responsibility, they did not help matters by revving the engine full throttle.

So far the guys at Uprev seem good. The Garrett turbos are getting replaced at a reduced rate. Apparently they do not repair them.

This modding thing is not cheap!

That stinks, yup modding is not cheap. You know what they say, "don't start modding if you can't afford to fix it when it breaks"(I think that is what they say:shy:)

Anyways good luck on the fix.

Now you tell me this!!!

I figure I need to keep the FX an additional 6 months to offset this cost. That'll put me around 150,000 miles and 90,000 turbo'ed miles. I guess the turbo odometer starts over since new turbos are now being installed.

I wonder what the 2012 FX will look like...

ya, it seems like alot of the boosted Z and G guys always said they wouldnt do FI unless they had the money for install + a blown engine
so, you uhhh, you gonna be selling the TT kit?

 WOW, 90,000 turbo'd miles... on built motor right? :ehh:

What were those lines coming in contact with? Did they say? Or do they just need to be heat shielded from ambient/radiating heat?

No, the motor is stock but I changed out a number of parts.
I figure I'll need to upgrade the tranny at some point.

Not sure what the lines came in contact with. Apparently on the original install they did not use heat shielding anywhere. I am correcting that problem now!

90000 turbo miles is a LOT and especially on stock motor. I think this proves JWT quality once more.. Even the lines were not heat shielded, it lasted for a LONG time I think.

I had about 30,000 miles on the first set of turbos. I added the kit after I had 65,000 miles on my FX.

I've come to learn the turbos are actually Garrett. Jim Wolf packages the whole twin turbo kit.
