Rim Weights

I have 22 x 9.5 wheels with 285 tires and they look just fine...square and flush with the wheel. Some people even go with 325. That will give the sidewall a bit of a bulge (and what they call "rim protection"). There's always a recommended range of tire widths. You'll be fine if you stay within that range.

guys, I just want to add something here that maybe many won't realize if your just looking at overall weight as a determining factor for wheel choice...

overall weight is of course a factor, but what many won't realize is that it's not just the weight that comes into play, but it's also a matter of WHERE this weight really is in the overall wheel assy... the further out from the center this weight is the more impact it will have on performance. for example, a 3 piece forged wheel may initially seem that it is heavier than an equivalent cast wheel... & of course it can be, BUT you should also realize that with a 3 piece forged wheel, the whole outer lip & rim area is extremely light, with the bulk of the wheel weight being from the forged center section... also, the forged center section will have the bulk of it's weight in the very center where the hub & lugs are, so a 3 piece wheel that is 10 pounds heavier than a cast wheel overall, can still perform as well as the lighter wheel. yes, you may wind up with a bit more overall unsprung mass, but as far as rotational resistance & acceleration/deceleration the slightly heavier 3 piece wheel is not necessarily at a disadvantage over an overall lighter cast wheel, which will wind up with much more of it's mass & weight at the outer rim area.

tire weight is also important because this is at the outermost part of the rotating assy. don't automatically assume that a lighter overall assy will always perform better than an overall heavier assy. a 3 piece forged wheel with a light tire can outperform a lighter cast wheel with a heavier tire even if the overall assy is a bit heavier on the 3 piece combo...

overall weight is very important but there are other variables that also affect performance as a whole...

Looks to me like your scale might be running 10lbs light.

I'm having my OEM 20's taken off on Wednesday so I'll weigh them and let you guys know.

its commercial scale that local tuner shop uses to ship out parts. it perfectly matches ups, fedex, usps's scales too so it can't be off by 10lbs.

i've done lots of search on oem wheel weight and it seems like there are two version of oem 20's. some weighted and got around 31lbs. and some others got 41lbs. mine came out to be 31.5lbs.

i have a feeling that wheel versions might be different with the years. 03~05 & 06~08.

Confirmed.

OEM 20x8+40 is 31.5lb

Seems like Infiniti made two different versions of sport 20" wheels. Maybe wheels from older ('03~'05) model might came with 40 pounders.

Strange, if somebody with an older version pre '05 wheel could weigh their 20's. Did you buy your FX used? I wonder if your 20's are knockoff's.

I believe you, and will change it. Thanks for the update and your findings!!! Now if somebody could re-measure the 18's, and the new 21's.

Thanks
