My CD Player seems to be PMS. I put brand new, unscratched CD's in and it skips all the time as if the CD has finger prints and scratches all over it. Then sometimes it will play just fine with no problems. I'm tired of it and I think its sad that this is happening to my FX which is only 4 years old. Any suggestion for an easy fix of this problem?
I'm about to get the MP3 hookup in my center console and just say screw it and be done w CD's, PERIOD!

I had a similar problem about 6 months ago where the cd skipped and made horible noises when I hit a bump. Sometimes I could get it going with a few smacks on the dash. Dealer had to change it for a new one and it is ok now. It turned out to be a alignment issue with the optical head.

Y eah man, get yourself an iPod/iPhone adapter. My CD and cassette players are jammed since god knows how long, they used to make a brief grinding noise when I first turn the engine on because of the jam, I had to actually "disable" them permanently by cutting the wires to the little motors inside both of them.

Probably cheapest solution other than to "disable" it would be to buy a used unit on eBay. If the issue is with the optical head being out of alignment, it's not something that can be fixed cheaply. If smacking it a few times doesn't work, replace it. They're not that expensive, I see them on eBay from time to time pulled from wrecked cars.

What I did before cutting the wires is I bought Usa Spec Pa15-nis, absolutely fantastic sound quality, it charges the iPhone too so I never had a dead battery!.
