Interior Smell

Just bought an 05 FX35 with 35K miles. Great shape except for a musty smell. Dealer has tried deoderizer in carpets and throughout the A/C system with recirc on. Musty smell still there, also the cabin filter was changed. Any similar experiences and/or thought how to rectify.

as for the smell... I didn't/don't have that problem... can you use something like

i tried ozium for a smoke "scented" loaner and it didnt work until i used vinegar. you can try a small amount on a wide bowl (or i use a small ziplock plastic with a little amount and a tissue inside, then fold the plastic halfway so it is open and set it on a cupholder) and recirculate the air then leave the bowl for some time. the vinegar smell will be there, but will fade right away. hope this helps.

Did you specify the carbon cabin filter when you had your filter changed? The paper filter does not remove odors but the carbon filter does.

Ive heard allot of the new car smell is formaldehyde maybe you could stop by a mortuary and get some to try.LOL:smile:

Or get some out of my Ex's veins or maybe she had ice water there. LOL Thanks for all the prompt feedback I'll get the carbon filter today. I've heard the same about ozone products, i.e. they dont work, the vinegar idea can't hurt to give a try.
 
i have what was mentioned in post #2, and i recently was complemented on how good my FX smelled. i keep it in the arm rest so it doesnt get too strong.

did you change the in cabin filter to a "carbon" filter?

Also you can use "frabreeze" for the interior carpets and all.


...and of course a good air freshener , not one that has a shape of a tree !
 
I smoke, and tried tons of products to get rid of the smell.
Now Ozium works great for me.
Before I use Ozium, I used ground coffee.
The coffee smell fades very fast, but absolves bad smell well.
 
Put in the charcoal filter this weekend and it has made a big difference. I have run the A/C in recirc for last two days and all musty smell is gone. Thanks for all the advice.
