Gear Selector Trim replacement?

One of the last items in restoring the condition of my FX is the peeled chrome trim on my gear selector knob. Anyone replace this? i tried very briefly to take my knob apart with little success and without breaking it. i also couldn't find any threads on this here. BTW anybody publish a decent repair manual thats NOT a DVD/CD??? thanks in advance... BB

I think you just pop the lower retainer down and then remove the set screw that attaches the knob.

If you are looking for a paper version of the service manual the only place I know other than E-bay is to order the paper version of the fsm from Nissan. They cost about $350.

hit it with an ikea shelf.... that popped mine right off and then i put on a momo

Wait a min. mine did not have a Screw!!! It has a Clip. Here is a pic.

I think 54fordcoupe has a +06 or newer fx35 as he refers to a chrome piece on the knob. The pre 06 do not have a chrome trim on the shifter knob.

Now that we're on the subject, does the '06 shift plate come with the boot? can it be taken off and will it look good?

the 06 shift panel does come with a boot but it will not look good if you remove the boot.

Only if you use an aftermarket shifter knob like the Momo .
