According to the readout, I get 12.4 avg. city even if I'm a good girl and keep my foot out of it. Now today I'm checking it on the frwy., which is rare as after buying this car, I've no $ for gas to go anywhere, and it says 27. (whatever), then it says 29, then 30.5. What's up with this ? Also I seem to have that situation described in this forum with the wanky fuel levels. Question is even with that level bouncing around a bit, can you rely on the DTE ?

Can never really trust the DTE.
Gotta go by the actual fuel guage. You'll get a feel for how much you've got left over some time, & after some fuel runs & fill ups.

The problem with the gauge reading wrong was due to the fuel senders. If thats the case you can take it to the dealer and they SHOULD replace both senders for you and that will fix the problem.

As far as MPG......I normally get 19.1 mixed city/highway.
But I went on a roadtrip this weekend and I got it up to 22.4 (all highway)

You have to remember that the mpg reading will constantly change due to the type of driving you are doing (lead foot or grandma) to the road conditions you are driving on (uphill or downhill) and where you are driving (stop and go city or highway cruising). Those are the three factors which will cause the mpg reading to change.

This is what you do if you want to know for sure.

Fill up your tank all the way (preferably before it's all the way out.) You should now have about 22 Gal. of gas. Before you drive your car, reset the MPG and one of the 2 (AorB) trip counters. Also, just to be sure, write down your exact mileage from the Odometer.

Next time you put gas in the car, write down exactly how much gas you have pumped. That's how much gas you have used since the last fill up.

Now, deduct the original Odometer reading from the new Mileage on the car. Divide the number of Gallons you pumped by the Mileage difference. This is now the True Average MPG. You can now compare this with your MPG gage.

Yeah, my mileage sucks too. i was getting like 16 mpg when i first bought my car but checked the tires pressure and it was like 20 psi from the dealer, rode smooth though. i pumped the stock sized 20"s (toyo's) to 40 psi (50 psi max payload) and now im guessing i probably get near 20 or more. rides crappy now though :( but now i dont actually see the gauge go down driving around the block...

Ive relied on the DTE, ive gotten it down to 10 miles til empty...it works..i usually fill up when the gauge is on E

The FX is a gas guzzling pig... premium too ... I didn't buy this car to compete with the civics and corollas so I don't bother wasting my time figuring it out because I've already accepted this fact about the VQ. But to answer the question I get about 15.5 - 16 all city.

i saw my DTE drop to 9 once in a g35 sedan because i had just floored it for a few seconds. needless to say i was actually at more like 40-50, but in that situation i guess it would have gone empty with 9 miles of driving like that, kinda like the veyron.

Try this for MPG.

You'll have to do the math otherwise, it's not correct.

GTO-Dave saw mine tonight. It read 23MPG. I do 14 at best.

Somethings broken there buddy.
